Michael was trying to focus on his homework. He had to research a lawsuit of choice and there were too many to pick from.
And there was also Luke, sitting on the hood of his car, waiting for his friends to come.
Michael smiled to himself as he observed his friend. He had never seen him more excited or nervous.
Knowing he won't get any of his work done, he grabbed his and Luke's jacket and joined him outside.
"Just because you're a werewolf, that doesn't mean you can't catch a cold."
It was early December and while there was no snow, there was cold.
Luke grinned at him. "Thank you, doctor."
He rolled his eyes. "Nervous they won't show up?"
Now when he was closer, he could feel that Luke's excitement was overpowered by nervousness.
Luke turned around and frowned. "No. I'm nervous they'll get lost. Calum is a good driver but he has no sense of orientation and the rest of them are awful at navigation. I used to be the map guy."
Michael ignored the hint of sadness in Luke's smile.
"They won't get lost," Michael said.
"How do you know?"
"I can smell them." He grinned.
Before Luke could try and sense them with his nose, his ears caught on the sound of a vehicle. Michael relaxed once the anxiety flushed away from Luke's body.
The young wolf jumped off the car and rushed towards the car.
Michael observed as four people all came rushing out of the car to hug their friend. Just as he was about to leave, Luke called his name.
"Mikey, come and meet my friends."
Reluctantly, Michael walked over. Besides ridiculously short girl, all the boys Luke called friends were as tall as he was.
"This is Calum," Luke nodded towards the designated driver. "We played football together when we were little, we've been friends ever since."
The Māori man shook firmly shook his hand.
Next was a smiling hazel-eyed man. "This is Ash, we've been friends since kindergarten. Matthew and I were in the same band a few years ago." The third man had short ginger hair and a handsome freckled face.
"I'm Maddie," She pulled Michael in a hug. "I always get introduced last."
Maddie was short, had long braided platinum hair, and the brightest green eye shadow Michael has ever seen.
"I was Luke's first girlfriend when we were eleven. Before we knew we were gay."
Luke blushed and rolled his eyes. Michael knew he missed his friend.
