"Probably me."

Luke rolled his eyes at Michael but the shy smile on his face told him he wasn't lying.

"Then why," Luke said. "Aren't you being followed on your every step by people wanting you?"

Michael laughed. "I think you experienced my kindness yourself."

Luke sighed. "But you said that was you pretending. Do you always pretend?"

Michael squeezed Luke's hand he was holding. "Not always. I was like you once, kind, too kind, but people find a way to use you."

Luke noticed where, or more specifically, who Michael was staring at.

"Is this why you don't like Damien?"

Michael huffed like just the mention of the man's name was offensive.

He wanted to know so he asked. "Katherine mentioned you both like to sleep around." Luke waited for Michael's reaction but it never came. "Do you not like him because he's your competition?" He knew what Katherine suggested wasn't true. But this was the only way Michael would maybe tell him the truth.

"You really believe this?"

Luke caught Michael's gaze and shook his head. "No. But I got the impression he's not your favorite person, however, you never warned me about him. So, I'm not sure what I should think."

The dance finished, but Michael didn't let go of his hand, so Luke didn't as well.

When the music picked up, they continued to dance, neither caring what people around them thought.

"He's a low life. His mother was a prince and his father was a no-one. At least that's what people thought. He ended up being a powerful magician and passed his gift to him. When both of his parents died, his aunt, who's the queen of Northern territory took him in."

"Katherine said he uses people."

Michael exhaled loudly. "His magic is good, he's not anything like you but he can read people, he can read their emotions and feelings. And he uses that to ruin people's lives."

"Then why didn't you say anything?"

"He would know if I did. He'll know now."

Luke knew where Damien was standing, staring at them. He also knew that when this dance will end, he'll have to say yes to him.

He looked at Michael and smiled. He gave him the smile that Michael called too kind, too bright.

"It won't change anything."

It wouldn't, Luke knew, nothing Damien could say to him will change anything.

"Luke," Michael said, concern clear in his voice.

"Michael," Luke said his name and looked him in the eyes.

Michael smiled too. He didn't trust Damien, but he did trust Luke.

When the song was over, Luke could see Katherine's brother trying to reach him before Damien would but he just shook his head.
