Unlike Luke, Calum had plenty of friends that weren't him.
While Calum would talk to a lot of people, date them, hang out with them, Luke didn't see the need. Eight more years and he'll know for sure who his soulmate will be.
He did find trouble finding friends sometimes.
Calum was incredibly social and when Luke arrived at his birthday party, he realized he didn't know most people there. Luke did take pride in being the only one who Calum texted first thing in the morning when he got his new tattoo.
Walking into the house, he immediately felt awkward. He didn't see any of the Hood family members and he didn't feel like introducing himself to people he didn't know or joining conversations with people he knew.
On his mission to find Calum, he bumped into someone else.
"I'm sorry, so sorry." Luke immediately started to apologize.
The boy seemed older and Luke couldn't place where he knew him from.
"Chill," He laughed. "I was the one not paying attention." He took a second look at Luke before offering him his hand. "You must be Luke."
"I-I am," He shook the boy's hand. "How'd you know?"
"Blond, blue-eyed with hair fighting against gravity." He laughed when Luke blushed and started to fix his quiff. "I'm Michael."
Immediately Luke realized where he knew him from, he was on Calum's football team. Michael didn't look like a jock but he remembered Calum telling him Michael was only on the team because his dad or maybe uncle was the coach.
"Nice to meet you, Michael."
"Calum put me in charge to offer newcomers drinks but I think you know this house better than I do."
Luke appreciated Michael honoring his birthday boy's best friend status. However, now that he was introduced to someone who seemed cool, he didn't want to go back at aimlessly looking for someone to talk to.
"True but usually, there are no drinks in this house."
Michael laughed. Luke found himself blushing for no reason.
"Then follow me," He turned towards the kitchen and Luke walked behind him. He noticed he was wearing a shirt from a band Luke liked so that was a possible conversation started.
Then he noticed a bandana covering Michael's wrist and Luke realized why Michael's name seemed so familiar to him, he was the boy who refused to look at his tattoos and didn't believe in soulmates.

When Luke turned sixteen the time seemed to fly. He barely remembered anything from that summer that seemed only five seconds long.
He got his third digit tattoo which was four but he didn't pay too much attention to it.
Calum forced him to go out with him more and since he was sixteen, his mum let him stay out for longer. They would hang out with Calum's teammates and Luke would occasionally be the third wheel on Calum's dates.
He did have a new friend.
Michael would invite him over to play guitar or video games. They would talk about school and music but Luke made sure to not mention soulmates.
Calum said he did it once and Michael didn't talk to him for weeks.
Sadly, when school started, he saw less of Michael as he didn't go to the same school as them. However, Fridays were game nights and Luke became an honorary member of the football team so he joined the afterparty.
The boys tried to convince him to try out for the team but Luke was too busy with his guitar lessons.
Soon enough he found another hobby.
Kissing Michael Clifford.
The first time it happened, he and Michael were waiting for his dad to pick them up after a concert. It was cold so Michael held his hand and then warmed Luke's entire body by pressing his lips against Luke's.
It drove Calum crazy when neither of the boys would confirm or deny their relationship status.
Luke presumed they were boyfriends but he didn't care. Luke only cared he was the only person Michael was kissing.
They did hide the truth from their parents so they could get away with sleeping over at each other's houses.
One thing Luke noticed was that Michael refused to look at his wrist so he started to cover it up as well.
