William Barlowe

It's been raining all day. I haven't bothered going anywhere since leaving class earlier in the day. But as the hours went on, the winds been picking up it's now pouring. I wouldn't be surprised if it started to flood soon with how fast it's coming down.

At some point, I must have fallen asleep. Suddenly my phone starts blaring with an emergency alert, forcing my eyes open as I hastily reach for my phone.

"All residents in residing in Berkeley, California and surrounding areas, please evacuate the area immediately. Please dial your local emergency line if services are required."

Oh fuck. When did this happen? Ive barely been in my phone all day. No wonder I saw so many people leaving with their suitcases packed earlier today.

Dammit, i'm such an idiot! If i'm lucky I can maybe get out of town before it gets worse.

I hopped out of bed, grabbed my suitcase and began packing everything I could fit. I picked up my car keys, phone and wallet and rushed downstairs.

I made it to the front doors, only to see a tree and a bunch of debris blocking the front entrance. I tried pushing against the doors, but they wouldn't even move an inch. "Fuck!" I shouted. There's only a couple cars left in the parking lot from what I can see, and not a soul left in the building.

The owners of the vehicles still here have probably left anyways with friends or family.

I took a deep breath and found the emergency exit, because it's for emergencies, you think they'd work, right? Well you couldn't be more fucking wrong. The door isn't budging either. I don't know what to do i'm trapped in here.

Okay, relax Will... You'll be fine. This building should be pretty strudy, I should be fine... Right?

A loud sound echoed throughout the building, and there goes the power.

"Great!" I yelled angrily.

I sat on the stairs and put my head in my hands in hopes to steady my breathing.

I pulled my phone out of my pocket, and hovered my finger over the call button.

Liam.

I haven't talked to him all week, ask me why? I don't know. I think I've just been feeling insecure... I usually never feel this way, but Liam is perfect. Too perfect. I feel like he could do better than me, so I thought I'd give him the chance to back out as well, I mean he hasn't tried to talk to me after class either...

I pressed the call button, and a few short rings later he picks up.

I explain my... Situation. He took a deep breath and said he'd be here soon.

A while later, my phone buzzes with a call. Liam's perfect face flashing on my home screen. God, he's probably pissed at me for not speaking with him. He probably thinks i'm just using him.

"Hi," I said quietly.

"I'm here, I-I'm out front. It's a mess out here." He said.

"I know... I don't know how i'm going to get out of here, Liam. I'm... Fuck, I'm scared."

I sound like such a baby. But I've never felt so alone. Especially in a time like this, if I didn't have Liam I don't know what I'd do.

I turned on the flashlight on my cell phone and walked closer to the glass of the front doors.

"Stand back and away from the glass, alright?" He said.

"Why, what are you-" I started.

"Just stand back baby. Trust me."
