I hear whispers coming from outside my mind. Suddenly, the whispers converted themselves to mumbles and then finally to clear words. "Honey, wake up. It's time to go to school.", I heard a soft, soothing voice; which sounded very familiar. I opened my eyes and yawned loudly.

"Good morning Brynn!", that soft voice came again. Then I realized it was my mother. "Today is a very special day for your father and I.", she smiled widely. I tried to recall the memory of what day it was. Then it hit me. February 14, Valentine's day and my parents' anniversary. I finally got up from my bed. Still dazed, I managed to crawl my way into the bathroom. I had bumped into the wall a few times but im okay. Woah, I thought to myself as I took a long, hard look at my reflection on the mirror. My brown curls were in a messed up bun, which must have been perfect before I got to bed. The bads under my eyes just seem to get worse and worse as more and more school days pass by. I promise you that if school gets any earlier that this, im SO switching to homeschooled! I also must have been in a deep sleep. I didnt't quite remember what I was dreaming about last night but, what ever it was, must have been about food or something. Why? Tell that to the drool across my mouth.

As I finished doing my morning duties, I grabbed my book-bag and hopped in the car. We were ready to go!

Valentines day doesn't feel like much of a holiday to me. Valentines day is the day to feel love. Love? We're supposed to love one another everyday! Ever since I started middle school, things just started getting tough for me. Grades, teachers, and making friends. Luckily, My best friend Maxwell Smith, Max for short, came to my school. I remember when we were just in kindergarten. We both used to color together, make mini projects, and so on. Most importantly, he always stood up for me no matter what. That's why it's so hard to make best friends; because the best one is already mine :).

The car came slowly to a stop. "We're here Brynn. Have fun and Happy Valentine's day!", mom gave me a kiss on the cheek. As I shut the car door, she instantly left. I glanced at my watch. 7:25, I said to myself. "Who are you talking to?", another familiar voice said. The voice is noticable that it's obviously a boy's. His voice was deepish and clear. It didn't take me long to notice it was Maxwell. "Oh hey.", I gave him a friendly shove. "I've got something for ya'.", he slowly took away what was hidden behind his back. I stood there smiling and giggling when Max revealed to me a giant stuffed polar bear. Attached to the polar bear was a box. I slowly opened it. My mouth flew open as I found out what was inside. A jeweled necklace that fit just my size. It said "Best". I figured he had the other piece. He took out his keychain and there it was. His piece said "Friend". We both gave each other warm smiles. I hugged him tightly. "Thank you!" He placed his arms around my waist, hugging me back. "Happy Valentines day buddy", he whispered in my ear. We let go at the same time and laughed. It was a great start for a brand new day.

Second period was a total bore; as usual. I had civics, a "great" way to start the morning. Our teacher, Mrs.Moor giving lectures on how kids never pay attention in class. The rest was just "blah, blah, blah". Max and I sent notes to each other during class and.. something kind of scared me about him, something I never knew.

"Ugh! Civics gets even more boring by the minute!", I started.

"Yea it does. Brynn, I wanna tell you something but you have to keep it a secret."

I stood there for a moment and stared at him, even though he was just pertending to pay attention to Mrs.Moor.

"O.k."

"I like Samantha..."

"WHAT?!", I accidently yelled out for the whole class can hear.

"Brynn! What are you doing yelling in my class! Another one of those and I will have you serve detention!", Mrs.Moor scolded at me. How embarressing! Most importantly, how could this be? Samantha Veil, a girl who has been with my and Max since forever. She was my best friend and then ditched me for the "popular" crowd. How could this be? Why didn't I know this sooner? Too many questions swirled in my head, giving me a massive headache. My cheeks flushed red of embarresment. "May I go to the bathroom, ma'm?", I nervously asked Mrs.Moor. I always talk like royalty to my teachers so I wouldn't get detention or anything. Also so they wouldn't talk bad about me. "Yes, you may. HURRY!", she snapped. I got out of my chair as smoothly as I could and led my way to the hallway.

I splashed some water on my face to cool myself down. I stared at myself in the mirror. My brown curls stayed perfectly still, my dark green eyes seem to get darker and darker. I was wearing some skinny jeans with a red Hollister top to match the Valentines day theme.

"Why did you scream? Did my secret surprise you?", I glanced at the door and saw Max leaning against the wall.

"Why didn't you tell me sooner? How did this happen?", I stared at the mirror instead of looking at him straight in the eyes.

"I don't know. Look Brynn, you can't be mad at me forever or until I stop liking her."

I turned around swiftly. I stared right into his big brown eyes. "You're right; but that doesn't mean im going to be friends with her. Do you KNOW how much that hurts to me?! My best friend having a crush on my worst enemy?!"

"Well maybe you should try to be friends with her.", Max was being so kind with me and I was being a bitch to him. I felt like crying on dot but there was really no point. "You cant demand love, Brynn. C'mon, we have to get back to class.", Max was right. We both left to class and sat down. We didn't speak for the rest of class.

Finally, lunch time. Lunch was always my favorite time of the day. Not today though..

"Hey Brynn.", I turn around to see a girl in a blonde bun wearing a white tank-top and booty shorts. It was Samantha.
