We walk back towards Carlisle's but have decided to take our time, using these precious minutes as much as we can as not even an hour ago I thought I wouldn't be alive right now.

Jake entwines his fingers through mine as we get nearer. I turn my head to face him and smile, not having to look where I am going. "I'm so glad this little problem was solved with the Volturi and now we can be together," I say relieved.

A thought comes to mind and I immediately feel worse about my actions these past few days. "What if it did end badly? What if I did die? I would have wasted all that time not being with you because of myself and my idiotic thoughts," I say annoyed. How could I be so stupid? "No matter what, I will never do that to you again," I promise.

"You were doing what you thought was best for me, for us, don't worry about it."

I nod, just wanting to forget about everything that has happened, the Volturi and everything else.

We arrive at Carlisle's and as soon as we enter mum embraces me in a tight hug. Even though I am a vampire the pain she is inflicting is overwhelming. "Mum, too tight," I mutter. She releases me from her grip and immediately I am taken into another's. Emmett.

He swings me around and I laugh. "What are you doing!? Grow up!" I say, trying to sound annoyed but not being able to keep the joy from my voice, not being able to erase the smile on my face.

"I will always be like this and you're stuck with me!" he says loudly.

"Sucks to be me then," I say, winking.

He purposely squeezes me and I drop my hands to his shoulders, trying to lift myself up.

Dad enters the room as soon as Emmett places me back firmly on the ground.

Dad smiles as he sees me but something about his mood is lowering mine.

"You should be happy! We survived the Volturi once again!" Emmett says joyfully.

Dad shakes his head slightly. "Edward, what is wrong? Relax for once! Be happy for our victory!"

"They will never stop," he announces. Everyone stops what they're doing at once and turns to face him.

"What do you mean? They said it's our choice," I state.

"I mean with trying to split us apart, we're a united family and they will keep trying to break us," he answers.

"Edward is right, but we don't have to worry about that now," Carlisle adds. "We will focus on that when it comes up again, might not for years."

"I agree with Carlisle," I say as I go to stand beside Jake, placing my hand in his.

"I just don't want any of us to think we can beat the Volturi so easily, because they want us to go into a false sense of security."

"We won't," Jake says, opening his mouth for the first time in over ten minutes.

Dad just nods before leaving the room again.

"What is his problem?" I ask mum.

Mum shrugs. "He is just worried, he thinks the Volturi gave up way too easily today."

"Maybe because they realised they are wrong?" I say simply.

"They are never wrong, Renesmee. Well, that's how they see it."

Mum walks away, walking out of the living room and going to, I presume, dad.

I start to think of tomorrow, what's the bet my family have forgotten. "What a fun day tomorrow is going to be," I sigh.

"What's tomorrow?" Jake asks. I look at him, eyes wide. I so hope he is joking but by the expression on his face I cannot tell. I didn't think he would forget considering he promised he wouldn't. I can't believe that, of all people, Jake has forgotten about my birthday . . .
