Chapter 4- Part 1

I end up crying of laughter and wipe my face dry. I look at Jake beside me, shaking my head.

"Do not let my dad hear you do that," I say, whilst shaking my head.

I think back to that day. "I remember . . . the truck stalled?" I ask and Jake nods. "Mum was driving the truck and you were in the front with her. I remember getting annoyed as I wanted to be in the front and you both would not let me."

"Why can't I sit in the front?" I say, not being able to stop the pout developed probably permanently on my face.

"Because your dad will kill us both, well, probably me," Jake says. "I was the one that got it up and running again."

I lean forwards from the back seat, my chin propped up on the seat between Jake and mum.

"So this was your first car, mum?"

Mum laughs. "Yes it was, thanks to Mr. Black. Jake's father," mum responds.

I nod. I cannot wait until I get my first car. My parents would be freaking with me driving around!

We arrive back at Gramps and drive up the driveway.

"Dad!" I say.

Before jumping out of the car I overhear Jake mumble "oh no" under his breath and mum sigh.

"Nes are you okay?!"

"It was fun dad, chill!" I say, laughing.

"I cannot believe you took her out in that death-trap!" Dad exclaims to mum and Jake, whilst I continue laughing and smiling.

Jake turns to me and gives me a wink. I look at Jake, continuing to laugh. I run up to Jake and he opens his arms for me. I run into his arms at full speed and he picks me up in a hug, swinging me around. "We need to drive in the truck again!" I say in glee to my father's dismay.

"No way!"

"I cannot believe you remember all of that," Jake says, laughing.

I smile. "I have a good memory, Jake. I remember a lot of stuff from my life," I say.

Jake is smiling too, and until then I didn't realise that I had actually had my hand on his thigh and he shared that whole memory with me, from my point of view.

"It is still so interesting seeing events from your point of view. I will never get used to that," he says. "Especially memories I am a part of."

"Guessing it is weird seeing yourself from someone else's point of view?" I ask.

"A little, but sometimes when you show me things I can feel your emotions during them too? Feeling how much you looked up to me back then . . . well, it's strange to feel your feeling," he says, trying to explain.

I nod. "I have always cared a lot about you Jake, even when I was young. It just developed into more as the years have gone on."

He smiles. "So, since when have you liked me?" he asks.

"I've liked you since I can remember. When I was little, you were always there to play or just to hang out with. You're a constant in my life who isn't family. I cannot remember when I first started having a crush on you, my feelings just got stronger over time.

When I overheard mum and dad say that you've imprinted on someone though, I felt crushed, heartbroken. I then realised that this is much more than a crush and that I love you."

"I'm sorry you had to find out like that. I told everyone that I wanted to be the one to tell you but you were hurt and upset about it, I would have preferred them to tell you than have you hurt like that. I'm so sorry."

"It wasn't just your fault Jake; it's kind of mine too. I would not have found out if I didn't eavesdrop on mum and dad talking about it. I would not have been upset over it if I didn't listen into a conversation I was not meant to hear."

"I should've told you ages ago. You know what imprints are though; I thought it would've freaked you out."

"Jake, I am still a bit weird about the whole imprint thing. But I know that you love me and I love you, and that's all there is to it. I-" he kisses me which stops me from talking. I kiss him back, him leaning to one side and me also.
