I look at him and sigh.
"Why not?" I ask.
"Because I don't want you to rush into anything," he says, he eye bore into mine. My hands are still within his between us. I gently attempt to pull a hand from his grasp and he lets my hands go. I brush my hands through my hair.
"You're not," I begin. "I don't feel rushed. I want you; I want to be with you."
"You are with me," he says with a slight chuckle, "but just not yet. Okay?"
I understand where he's coming from and maybe I am rushing a bit but I have waited so long to be with him. But I can't force him, whenever he is ready, I will be too.
"Okay," I say as I sit down on the grass. Jake sits down with me. I stare at the ground for a minute and Jake grabs my hand.
"Nes, I think it's too early in the relationship to worry about that," he says. I look up at him.
"You're probably right, sorry." I bite my lip as I look up at his face.
He laughs it off. "Don't need to apologize. I love you, Nes. I want to be with you forever, so we don't have to rush anything." I move myself so I can sit in his lap.
"I know. But I can kiss you, right?" I ask and he laughs again. He leans in to kiss me.
"Of course," he says before kissing me again. I place my hands on both of his cheeks and kiss him.
After a brief kiss, I get off of his lap and lie down on the grass on my back and Jake lies right next to me. I look up at the clear blue sky and suddenly realize we still have all day. I sit back up and look at Jake.
"We still have hours of the day left; I don't have to be home until night fall. What are we going to do?" I ask. I'm not implying on what I was planning to do minutes ago but what are we going to do?
"I don't know, but as long as I'm with you I'm happy," he says and I smile. "So when's your next check-up with Carlisle?" Jake asks. He's asking about the check-up that tells us around what age I am in human years and how much longer I'll age for.
"Next week."
"Okay, what did he say in the last check-up?"
"He said I should be only ageing for a couple more months but it's not exact because some months I age quicker than others."
Jake nods. "You definitely aged a lot quicker early on. It seems to be at a much slow rate now," he says and I can hear the relief in his voice. Although my family meant someone like me when I was a child who stopped ageing, it still is not an exact science and thus my whole family will feel a lot better once I have stopped ageing completely.
"See that's just weird." I say. Although it is my life I still find all of this so strange. Even if Jake had not stopped ageing he would be around, what, twenty-five? I am sixteen almost physically and he remembers every little thing about my entire life, some things from when I was so little I do not even remember. It is a lot to get your head around, it is my life and it is hard for me. Imagine having to explain to someone else on the outside. My head hurts thinking about the complexities of it all.
"What's weird?" Jake asks.
"You have known me since I was born; I can't even remember that stuff."
"Well it's only actually been seven years, almost, and because I have known you so long you don't have to worry about anything. I know about you being a vampire and everything and you know everything about me. So it's like we've skipped the first step."
"I didn't think of it like that," I say.
More time passes while Jake and I talk. We don't really have a lot to talk about considering we see each other nearly every day. I grab my phone out of my pocket to see what time it is.
"Oh I forgot to ask – how did it go with that part at the garage? The car you were waiting to finish?" I ask.
"Oh, yeah! It went really well, the guy is so happy with the outcome which is great. He has already recommended a couple friends to our garage for car services and such."
I love speaking to Jake about the garage. His passion and interest is so contagious.
"What?" Jake asks with a small, awkward laugh.
"I love listening to you talk about the garage. Your passion, it is contagious and I love seeing you so happy. I am so glad it is going well."
"Well, I can always go with another little apprentice," he says, pushing me playfully.
"I already help out a little bit, but sounds like a good idea."
"You know, my dad gave Bells her first car," Jake says.
"What? That old truck?" I laugh. Jake nods.
"Yep, she loved it," he laughs.
"Gramps still has it at his place," I say, thinking of the old rust-bucket.
"Yeah, that's the one!" Mum and Jake took me for a drive in it once and I remember dad freaking out. If he could have had a heart attack I think he would have.
"Remember when you and mum took me out in it? I think I was like nine? Well like two and bit in human years. I remember dad's exact words when he found out. . ."
"'I cannotbelieve you took her out in that death- trap!'" Jake says, mimicking myfather's voice. We both end up in fits of laughter.
