Chapter 16

I was making breakfast for everyone, pancakes for Jeremy, waffles for Jenna and Elena and salmon for me. They walked down stairs to see me in a black vest top and grey joggies with my purple slippers. They looked at me strangely but sat down as I placed the plates in front of them. I smiled and opened the fridge to show them lunch, sandwiches or burgers their choice.

"And I will make dinner too, if you guys are up for it. It will be nice for you all to have your faviourites~" I was cheerful, they all could tell and just smiled.

"Oh, Isabelle you don't need to." I turned the stove off and sat with them and ate some of my salmon before looking at Jenna.

"I want to. It will put my mind at ease knowing I took care of you guys today. I was gone for ages, so I'm glad I'm back. I'm going to Caroline's room in the hospital, I want her to know I'm back to baby her like I am you guys." I got up and finished my plate before walking to the door. "See you guys soon!"

"Well, at least she's happy for once." I heard Jenna say as I close the door. I walked to my drawers and pulled out a outfit I never wore in years. My mother's dress.

It was a royal blue short skirted dress that had no straps and no shoulder or arm coverage. I walked to the shoe rack and looked at them. I slipped out my slippers and put on the high heel boots she bought me for when I looked 18. I put them on and walked to the mirror. I smiled at how I looked, just like mother and it made me happy.

I walked into the house and up the stairs to Elena's room to borrow her hair curler. I curled my hair and walked down to the front door but stopped when Jenna saw me. I walked over to her and spun around before smiling at her.

"You look just like Rosie did..." I hugged her before walking to the front door.

"I know, I wanted to look like the lady that made me. Dad loved her so much he would give up anything for her to be happy. She done the same for him but they both made a deal, they don't give up on making their lives work. I miss them, everyday... I wear the gift dad gives me everyday so might as well wear what my mother wanted me to have when I turn 18. Now I feel connected to them, like nothing can stop me!" I smiled before walking out the house and to the hospital.

I checked on Caroline, she was doing great. She was cheerful and just happy in general. I moved to the room John was in. I leaned on the door frame and smiled at him.

"Hey jackass, how are you holding up?" I walked over and held his hand that still had his fingers. I saw him smile weakly and held my hand back.

"Hi Isabelle, its nice to see you haven't aged a day. Are you?" I shook my head and told him still me. "Good. If you were one of those things...I would be really upset."

"More upset than not taking me in, Isobelle was my mother's best friend, they were close like sisters. They told each other everything..." My grip tightened as I looked at him, my eyes showing sadness. "Told me that Elena was my cousin and to protect her at all costs. You harmed her by harming her vampire friends." I let him go before walking out. "Leave John, don't fucking come back."

I walked out and back home. I got a text so I stopped and looked. It was Elijah, 'Saw what you did there.' I sent a message back, 'Then you heard what I said, did I sound too mean?' I walked home again and got in and went to the kitchen to prepare the family's food. He sent a message back saying I wasn't too mean. It made me smile.

I heard Damon upstairs after hours of silence and soon heard Elena shout 'no'. I dropped the knife and ran up the stairs to see Jeremy dead on the floor with Elena next to him and Damon watching. I pushed Damon down the stairs and yelled at him to leave. I ran back up stairs and crouched by Elena.

"He's ok. He'll be alright..." I was lying to myself and her, we both kept checking for a pulse or seeing if he moves. After a few Elena noticed he had a ring on and seemed relieved. I was still panicking until he just suddenly came back to life. "JER!"

I hugged him quickly with Elena while Stefan checked his eyes. He was still human, then I got told he was only killed by Damon because of Katherine. I got up and walked downstairs in silence and continued cooking.

I placed the food down and went to my room, got out the clothes and went to bed without checking my phone. I slept thinking of nothing but ways to kill Katherine.

I woke up to Elena saying I will be late. I got changed into leggings and a plain white top. I put on sneakers and followed her out to the school. I done as she asked and started helping random people with what they needed to do. I helped anyone that asked for it.

My phone went off and I looked to see who was calling. Elijah. I walked away from everyone because of the noise.

"Elijah, h-"

"I'll be coming into town and I need a favour." His tone was still gentle but he sounded like it needed to be urgent.

"Yeah, what is it? If it's anything blood related I will need to trick the hospital or sneak in. Maybe I could take some from Stefan..."

"Isabelle, your ranting."

"Sorry! What's the favour?"

"Yes I will need bloodbags but I also need you to stay near your cousin."

"Ok. I'll just take some from Stefan and keep them in my bag. Anything else?"

"Yeah, be safe." I hears him chuckle as I giggled.

"Be safe? Please you keep me safe I get in trouble."

"See you soon, Isabelle."

"See you soon, Elijah." I hung up and texted Elena I had to go do something and I would be right back later. I left and went to the Salvatore home.
