Chapter 24

Beep! Beep! Beep!

I woke up to the noise of a heart monitor, my eyes adjust to the light as I let out a groan of pain. I heard people moving, my eyes fully adjusted and I saw everyone. Elena, Jeremy, Alaric, Jenna, Caroline, Bonnie, Stefan and Damon. I smiled weakly at them and finally felt a hand on mine, I looked over and seen Elijah sleeping while holding my hand.

"Has he been here long?" My voice was quiet as I looked to the group. Elena nodded while Jenna spoke up in a soft caring tone.

"He has been there since he brought you in. He was worried and he finally fell asleep about 20 minutes ago." Jenna moved beside me before sitting down by the bed. "What happened, Isabelle? The doctors said you had a fractured spine."

"Me and Elijah went on a little trip and we got attacked by thugs. It's a blur, sorry Jenna."

"Don't apologise for being hurt. Isabelle, you will need to stay here a few days until your better ok?" I nooded as Alaric cleared his throat.

"We should head home. We all wanted to make sure your ok. I will visit in the morning while the children go to school, see if you remember anything else." I thanked Alaric as they all gave me a gentle hug each before leaving and saying goodbye.

I looked to Elijah and put my other hand on his head. I ruffled his hair, he opened his eyes and looked at me. He sat up before asking how I was. "I'm ok, still a little sore but I heal fast so by morning I should be all better."

He got up and stretched while I sat up on the bed. He rushed me here and made sure I was alright. He really is a caring friend. He told me he was gonna go get some blood but I grabbed his arm quickly and shook my head. "What? I know where the blood packets are."

"Hospital, blood packets are being watched. Just take some of mine, it will be better so you don't get caught and have to compelle them." I pulled him back to the bed and held my wrist out to him. He shook his head before saying he would be back and left. "Ass."

I got up to check the window view, it was nice, I could watch the sun set and relax. I smiled at the view before hearing someone scream. I walked out the room and followed the noise to see a girl bleeding from down below. I grabbed a towel and handed her it before getting a nurse telling them the lady had started their period.

I walked back into my room and seen Elijah drinking a blood packet and staring at me. "I heard a scream, poor girl didn't realize it was that time of the month for her. Probably her first one. I wonder why she's in here..." I sat back in the bed and looked at the packet in his hands.

"I didn't compelle anyone, they never saw me. So the nurses know you can move about with ease now." He put the packet down before fixing the blanket on the bed. "They might think something is wrong."

"Elijah, I'm rarely in hospital. They hardly have anything on me. So this is nothing, all they know is if they feed me meat that isn't seafood I will throw it in their face." I grabbed the blood packet and held it to him. He took it and drank it all.

I took his hand and got comftable in the bed before yawning. I moved onto my side and looked at him. He smiled gently towards me while sitting beside the bed. I started to think about the times we were together. He helped me as a child, he took me in when I passed out in the forest and gave me a home. He allowed me to regain my strength, control my emotions and relax for a while. He fed me food I needed, gave me a spot I could turn into a siren and go for a swim. He took care of me without being asked, he took me for a break so my magic can restore itself. He even rushed me here so I was ok.

"Elijah..."

"Yes?"

"Why are you helping me without anything in return?"

"You needed a friend-"

"Friends don't go the extra mile you do, Elijah. Well not the friends I've met."

"Isabelle, I want to keep Klaus away from you. I also want you to be strong enough to protect yourself and your friends from him. He is also after you for your power, keeping an eye on you is all I can do."

"So nothing else?"

"Well, I have became close to you as a friend. I found you enjoy comfort like hugs from behind and flowers."

"So we are friends?"

"Yes, we are." I couldn't help but reach over and hug him before getting comfy again to sleep.

Elijah stayed with me all night and morning. Alaric came in and I told him the truth of what happened. He nodded and told Elijah when he can drop me off at home before leaving for the day. I left the room with Elijah after making sure the room was clean and no blood was seen. He took me home and made sure I was ok before leaving.

Jeremy sat beside me and told me that Alaric told them. I nodded before resting my head on his shoulder. He patted my head before turning on the TV so we watched a movie until something came up.

I grabbed my phone and went to the Salvatore house, Damon sent me a message asking me to come over. I took my time as I was still sore from the attack. I walked into the house and walk to the living room to see Alaric and Damon talking. I sat on the couch and Alaric told me the plan.

I got up quickly but Damon grabbed my arm before speaking in a serious tone. "Isabelle, it needs to be done. He will harm Elena. He may be your friend but this is for the better good."

"Damon, he saved my life. I am not letting you kill him." I ripped my arm from him before sending him flying into the wall. "He is my friend! He cares for me and I care for him. Harm him and I will stab you with a stake." I was mad but Alaric calmed me with only one sentance.

"It's for Elena's safety, the one thing I know you value above all."

I eventually agreed and went to the party at the Lockwoods home. I seen Elijah and Mrs Lockwood talking and snuck into the alcohol to drink. Damon grabbed my arm and dragged me over to Elijah and Mrs Lockwood. They talked while I grabbed another drink and downed it.

Elijah took the other drink from my hand before holding it away. "Now, Miss Gilbert, that is enough for you." His face had a smirk, everyone knew my last name wasn't Gilbert but the people that werent in the group. Damon soon took me and Elijah into another room before closing the door.

I sat on the couch while they talked, Elijah went to leave and Damon didn't want him to. Soon Damon was pinned by Elijah with one hand, he went to grab his neck but Elijah grabbed and crushed his hand moving it away. I got up and stepped over to them and placed a gentle hand on Elijah's shoulder.

"Please don't. Damon is my friend, I don't want him killed, Elijah." My voice was soft while I was also feeling fear from what Elijah was doing. Soon he grabbed a pencil and stabbed Damon in the neck before looking at me and apologising. He handed Damon a hankerchief while telling him to show respect.

He grabbed my hand gently and took me to the party. I took my hand away before leaving the house and standing in the driveway. Tears brimmed my eyes, I knew Elijah was an original and he was one for scaring a lot of people but he hurt one of my friends right in front of me after making sure I was alright from the hospital.

Elijah was in front of me soon and took my hands gently before speaking an apology that didn't help. I ripped my hands from his and pushed him back with my wind. "Sorry! You harmed him Elijah! You promised not to harm any of Elena's friends, her friends are mine too. I... I don't want to see you right now or for a while in fact. I... I don't forgive you."

He looked hurt, but I was hurting worse. I actually thought he wouldn't harm or threaten my friends but he did... He broke my trust. He left quickly as Damon walked over and grabbed my arm. I just hugged him and cried. He rubbed my back while trying to calm me down, Elena would hate to hear I was crying and he done nothing.

After a while Alaric, me and Damon went to the Salvatore house and had a few drinks, talking about the evening we had.
