Lisa

Later on that afternoon, every member of the Kim family was home and trying to soak up every last ounce of that lazy Sunday before the busiest two weeks of their lives took over. The election was only two weeks away and Richard and Dara had a full schedule of speeches and rallies leading up to election day.

Jennie and Jin would only attend a few of the political events and Jennie was tasked with running some of the day to day operations at her father's company during his absence in the coming weeks.

Jennie, Lisa, Jin, and Hoony were all sprawled out in the media room as Jin and Hoony played 'Call of Duty'. Sitting on the couches in the back, Jennie and Lisa were both reading and quietly laughing at the filthy commentary that was being spewed by Hoony and Jin as they played. Looking up from her book, Jennie caught Lisa staring. "Whatcha reading?" she asked. "Murder mystery." Jennie said, raising her eyebrows. "So don't cross me, because I read a lot of these and I'm picking up lots of useful tricks." she joked, giving Lisa a sly smile.

"You... murder me? That's cute that you think you could." Lisa sassed.

"Oh please, like it would be hard, all I'd have to do is put a little poison in a Doritos bag and you'd be done for. You eat those things so fast, you'd never notice." Lisa let out a laugh, knowing she was completely right. She had eaten her weight in snacks since she'd been in South Korea, but Doritos were Lisa's weakness. "You think you've got me all figured out huh? Well it goes both ways sweetheart. All I'd have to do is drop a little poison in the ice cream tub and you'd be a goner." Lisa said playfully. Jennie, clutched her chest, pretending to be offended by Lisa's words. "Yeah you think I don't know how often you get up for ice cream in the middle of the night?" she laughed.

"I can't help it. I love ice cream. In fact just talking about it makes me want some." she groaned before flashing Lisa a playful grin. "What would it take to get you to bring some ice cream up here?" she asked, giving Lisa big puppy dog eyes. "That depends. What are you offering?" Lisa chuckled. "I'll... be your best friend."

"Nah, I've got enough friends. What else ya got?" she said with a sly grin. Jennie's mouth dropped open at her rejection of friendship before her facial expression softened and a flirty grin took over. "I'll give you a kiss." she offered, lowering her voice and giving it a sultry tone. "Just one? Jeez I don't know... that's a pretty long walk and I mean, there are stairs and shit..." Jennie gave Lisa an over-exaggerated eye roll, but gladly relented and made a deal with her. "Five? Would that be worth your long journey?"

"Hmmm. What's the nationality of these kisses that we're talking about? I mean French kisses are worth a lot more..." Lisa said, waggling her eyebrows at her. "They can be whatever nationality you want, just go get the damn ice cream." She gave her a playful slap on the shoulder as Lisa stood to leave, before she turned her head to confirm the flavour. "Vanilla or chocolate?" Lisa asked from the doorway. "Vanilla please," she said sweetly.

"Go ahead and bring that chocolate up here too." Hoony said without lifting his gaze from the screen in front of him. "But I'm not fucking kissing you." Hoony added.

After the group had finished their ice cream Jennie took the bowls down to the kitchen with Lisa right behind her. She looked out the window at the early evening sun, turning toward Lisa with a bright smile on her face and she couldn't wait to find out what had put it there. "Will you take me somewhere?" she asked.

"Sure. I'll take you anywhere honey. Just tell me where you want to go."

"I have this place that's kind of special to me. It's higher up the hillside, but when I was younger I convinced myself that it was the highest place on the property and therefore the closest to Heaven. I go there sometimes when I need to feel close to my mom and I thought... maybe you'd like to see it, after our conversation last night."

She's the sweetest little thing I've ever met.

"I'd like that very much," Lisa said softly.

After circling their location on a map of the property and giving it to Bambam, Lisa and Jennie set off up the hillside. They walked and talked, enjoying each other's company until Jennie steered them toward a small clearing that gave a perfect view of the treetops below. It certainly wasn't the highest point on the hillside, but it felt like it was.

Lisa watched Jennie's slow steps as she walked carefully toward the edge of a small drop off and sat down. She folded herself into a little ball, criss-crossing her legs and lifting her head up toward the cloudy sky as if she were searching for her mother in the clouds. Patting the bare ground beside her, Jennie signalled for Lisa to join her, which she did so gladly, wrapping one arm around her and pulling Jennie into her side.

"Want to tell me about her?" Jennie asked, resting her head on Lisa's shoulder.

I haven't talked about my mom to anyone in years. It feels good to say this shit out loud. Thank you Jennie.

"She was tough, but had the kindest heart and she loved animals, probably more than she loved most people." Jennie giggled at Lisa's statement. "I can understand that."

"She loved horses the most and her family's ranch in Texas was her favourite place on earth. I think that's why my Pops moved there once I joined the Navy - to feel closer to her." Jennie snuggled up closer against Lisa's side as she spoke and she felt warmth grow in her chest the longer they sat there.

"She loved ranchers in her community so much that she became a livestock lobbyist in D.C., She would fly back and forth trying to get legislation passed that supported hard working ranchers and livestock owners."

"Wow." Jennie said without moving. "She sounds incredible."

"She was." Lisa agreed.

"We used to have a house in D.C. when we lived in the States. I wonder if you and I ever crossed paths and didn't know it." Jennie suggested.

"I doubt it. We never went with her. She had an office there, but we never went to visit, She preferred coming home to us than us coming up to see her."

"That makes sense," Jennie agreed. The two of them sat in silence for a while, soaking in each other's touch and looking out at the treetops and the cloudy sky. "Hey Jennie... you don't have to answer me now, but I was thinking... when I have to go in a few weeks, I was hoping that you might want to come out to California and visit me."

Hopefully longer than just a visit.

"I'd love that Lisa. You have no idea how much I'd love that." she said softly.

A small amount of sunlight crept out from behind the clouds and warmed their faces at Jennie's words causing both of them to turn and smile up at the sky.

"I think they liked that idea too." Lisa chuckled, turning her gaze up to the sky and giving Jennie a tight squeeze. "So I guess that means she likes me?" Jennie asked with a smile. "Oh I know she likes you... I can feel it." Lisa tapped her chest as she spoke before using her knuckles to tilt Jennie's face up toward hers and pressing her lips against Jennie's. It was a slow passionate kiss that was only made better by the bright sunlight of the evening sun that shined down on them. Maybe the light meant nothing, just the clouds parting temporarily as the wind pushed them around, but to Jennie and Lisa, that light meant everything.
