Lisa
Having to sit at the kitchen table while her team was outside talking to her Jennie was tearing Lisa apart. She wanted to run out there, scoop Jennie up and take her to bed where she could hold her all night and explain herself, but she couldn't. She had to sit there and wait for Jennie to invite her outside because that's what she needed. It had to be on her terms and Lisa understood that, but it didn't make the waiting any easier.
Come on guys. Work your magic.
Lisa's heart stalled as she watched her teammates stand and walk towards the kitchen door, waiting for one of them to smile and say they had convinced Jennie to hear her out.
"Give her some time, she'll come around." Jin said, giving Lisa a sincere pat on the back. "I take it she's not ready to talk to me yet?" Lisa asked with her shoulders sagging in defeat. "Not yet. She just needs a little time to process all this shit on her own." Bambam said, passing behind Lisa and giving her a squeeze on the shoulder.
The next few hours went by so slow, Lisa could have sworn time was moving backwards. Jennie had been on that couch for almost two hours, giving zero indicators of how she was feeling or what she was thinking, which was pure torture for Lisa.
Where's your head at Jennie girl? What are you thinking about out there?
Lisa sunk her head into her hands keeping Jennie in her sights as she let out an impatient sigh. Willing her soul to reach out and speak to hers, Lisa apologised in her head over and over and over, praying that Jennie might sense how sorry she was without having to speak to her. Lisa was willing to try anything at that point as desperation started to sink in.
Just as she was starting to lose hope, she saw Jennie's dark hair swish to the side as she turned over her shoulder to look at Lisa. Those big bright eyes were dull and unsure, but Jennie was looking right at her, which pumped her full of energy as she raised her head with hopeful anticipation.
Jennie whipped her head back around as soon as Lisa's eyes locked on to hers, causing a wave of anxiety to wash over her as she forced her eyes away from Lisa's.
What was that? Was that a good look or a bad look? Should I be relieved or worried about that look?
Lisa's wheels were turning a hundred miles per hour, trying to analyse the look Jennie had just given her, but before she could work herself into a panic, her eyes picked up on the slight movement of Jennie's arm. She had deliberately draped it over the side of the couch and flattened her palm toward Lisa.
That's the signal for - 'stay there, I don't need you' - great.
Just as disappointment started to overwhelm Lisa, she watched Jennie's tiny fingers curl into her palm, changing her nonverbal signal from 'Stay there, I don't need you' to 'Lisa come save me.' in an instant and Lisa's heart practically exploded at the beautiful sight. Lisa shot up out of her chair, letting herself focus through the darkness, praying her eyes weren't playing tricks on her.
"Sit your ass down, Doc." Bambam said over his shoulder without looking at Lisa.
"She fucking signalled me." Lisa said, with excitement in her voice.
Marcus looked over his shoulder and grinned at Jennie's signal. "Go get her then, dude." Marcus chuckled as Lisa's hand lunged for the door. Lisa's feet couldn't carry her fast enough as she approached Jennie from behind. She wasn't sure what Jennie wanted her to do or what she was comfortable with at the moment so she announced herself and chose to let her take the lead. "I'm right here Jennie girl." she said softly. Taking slow, cautious steps, Lisa approached the side of the couch, but wasn't going to sit unless she was invited to. Jennie looked up at her and eyed her carefully for a second or two before she flung her blanket to one side as an unspoken invitation to sit beside her.
