Lisa
Lisa and Jennie had spent five incredible days together. Five days of complete and utter contentment. There was no stress or worries, no threats or sadness, just each other and the love they shared. Every morning she and Jennie cooked breakfast together and helped Marco around the ranch doing various tasks, tasks that had once been chores to Lisa, but had become new experiences and memories with Jennie.
She loved every second of being at the ranch and all Lisa could see when she looked at Jennie was happiness. Lisa had stopped picturing the scary outcomes that had once been their reality and started picturing their future together. She had taken Jennie into town and over to introduce Jennie to her aunts and uncles who adored Jennie as much as she did and they spent the evenings laughing over dinner until the cicadas sang them home.
The late evenings had become Lisa's favourite time with Jennie because they were truly alone and it felt like they were the only two people on Earth. Each night Lisa loaded a small cooler with drinks and snacks into her jeep and drove Jennie to the far side of the property that overlooked the pastures. They would lay on a huge blanket with nothing but the stars and a few flashlights and talk and laugh until their sides hurt.
"It cracks me up that your family had no idea that you could speak any language other than English. When you and I started speaking to each other in Korean, I thought they were going to fall out of their chairs." Jennie laughed.
"There's a lot that they don't know about what I do baby." Lisa said, chuckling at their reaction as well.
"Well I'm impressed with your linguistic skills." Jennie said proudly.
"Yeah, well my Korean isn't half bad, but my Farsi is crap. Completely crap." Lisa chuckled.
"I bet it's not that bad."
"No really, we were working a job overseas and I was trying to give first aid to a man who had sustained a few bullet wounds to the leg. His pants were getting in the way and instead of having him peel them off his bloody leg, I was trying to tell him that we were going to cut the fabric of his pants, but my Farsi sucked so bad, he had no clue what I was saying."
Jennie giggled and smile, clearly picturing the communication break down and imagining Lisa speaking broken Farsi. "I had no choice but to start using hand signals with the guy to try and communicate with him, basically playing a game of medical charades with the dude, who clearly wasn't understanding."
Jennie's smile grew even bigger at the new images Lisa had provided her with and covered her mouth to stifle her own laughter.
"Anyway, I used my fingers to pantomime scissors opening and closing, trying to tell him I was about to cut the fabric of his pants, but he completely lost his shit. The guy thought I was going to try and cut his damn leg off with the scissors." Lisa laughed, causing Jennie to burst into laughter as well. "He even took a swing at me, which is obviously Hoony's favourite part of that story. Hoony came in and helped me get the guy back down onto the table and communicate with him, but told me I was never allowed to act as a translator ever again."
"He tried to hit you?" Jennie squealed with laughter.
"I mean yeah, wouldn't you if some random ass person who didn't speak your language came to cut your leg off with a pair of dull scissors." Lisa joked, loving the flutters of laughter that were escaping from Jennie's sweet lips. Her laughter danced around Lisa in the evening air until Jennie finally settled herself into Lisa's lap as she recovered from her laughing fit. "My sides hurt." Jennie said breathlessly as she clutched at her abdomen with her head in Lisa's lap.
"Glad my misfortune could provide you with some entertainment," Lisa joked with a smile looking down at the perfect woman as she laid her head in Lisa's lap, letting her hair drape over one of her legs. She was so beautiful and so perfect in that moment Lisa wished she could have captured it and saved it somewhere special.
Jesus. Life is so fucking good.
Lisa sat and admired Jennie for a second or two before turning her gaze up to the sky and closing her eyes briefly.
"What are you thinking about?" Jennie hummed as she laid her head in Lisa's lap and looked up at her.
"Nothing." Lisa said with a smirk, running her hand through Jennie's dark hairline.
"Liar." Jennie sassed with a smile that showed her perfect teeth.
God Jennie's so damn beautiful.
"I was just thinking about how much I love this... how much I love you." Lisa said honestly. Jennie's smile grew even wider, causing her eyes to squint and her nose to wrinkle. "I love you too, and I love it here." Jennie said with a sigh, turning her head in Lisa's lap towards the pasture.
I love having you here Jennie girl.
"What do you love most about being here?" Lisa asked, running her hand from Jennie's hairline, down through her long wavy locks. Lisa could tell Jennie liked her hands in her hair from her soft hums and the way her eyes would close slowly ever so often like she was completely at peace. Lisa kept the pace of her hand slow and rhythmic hoping to keep Jennie in that state for as long as possible.
"Everything. To be honest. I love how tranquil and serene it is here. There are jobs to be done, but they are straight forward and doable. Every task has a solution and at the end of the day everything just feels right, just feels peaceful." Jennie said with her eyes closed and a smile on her lips. "Not to mention how much I love your family." Jennie added with her smile growing wider.
"They love you too Jennie baby. Maybe even more than they love me, so I got to keep an eye on that." Lisa chuckled. "This place has always been my home, but it hasn't felt this much like home since... well since my mother was here." Lisa's words caused Jennie's eyes to open and her smile faded slightly with a look of concern. She sat up and moved, causing Lisa to swivel her head to try and track her quick movement in an effort to figure out where she was going. Jennie had moved herself behind Lisa and braced her back against a tree at the edge of their blanket. Patting the ground in front of her, as an unspoken invitation, she opened her arms out wide, inviting Lisa to sit between her legs and lean back on her, sitting in the same comforting position that Lisa had provided for her so many times before.
Lisa couldn't help but smile at Jennie's invitation and scooted her body back until her head was resting on Jennie's small shoulder. Using one elbow to secretly prop herself up, she leaned back against Jennie, letting her elbow take most of her body weight.
Jennie wrapped her arms around Lisa from behind and squeezed her tight before she spoke. "It's so obvious how much everyone here loves your mother Lisa. I never got to meet her, but even I can feel her here." Jennie said into Lisa's ear.
Lisa didn't verbally respond, she just closed her eyes and let out a sigh, giving more of her bodyweight to Jennie. She wasn't used to being taken care of, but Jennie made her feel like she could relax enough to be cared for. Jennie wrapped her small body around Lisa, supporting her weight as she used one hand to play with Lisa's hair. All of Jennie's small touches and sensations unwound Lisa's muscles one by one until she was completely relaxed in Jennie's arms.
