"You know I have to leave" Kallista explained to Eris as she packed some of her things in a bag.

"I just don't understand, after everything you went through why-" he said sitting in the bed besides her bag. She sighed leaving some of the clothes on the bed and going to stand in front of him, he pulled her between his legs by the hips.

"People like is never rest, Eris, you of all people must know that" she passed her hands through his red hair.

"I know, but what'll happen now that you are gone and I stay here, I for sure am not allowed in the night court" he explained.

"You knew this was coming. It was inevitable" Kallista said as he took her hands in his.

"No, it doesn't have to be"

"I don't even know if I am going to come out of this alive, it was luck that I did the last time" she shook her head and hit her lip an anxiety tick she hadn't lost "I don't want to drag you with me"

He was silent for some seconds before he looked up at her "I'll wait for you"

"No, no, no. Don't wait for me. Live your life. Find your mate. Forget me" a small rogue tear slid down her cheek which Eris promptly wiped away.

"Don't cry, I don't want to lose you, and if the only way to stay close to you is in the form of friendship, I'll accept that" Eris cupped her face with his hands "but remember, because I know you like to forget, there's people that love you and only want what's best for you, all right?"

She nodded with a watery smile as she lastly kissed him, a kiss full of love and shared memories that would always hold a place dear in her heart as in his.

A knock on the door interrupted, he sighed and stood up from the bed giving her one last kiss in the hair before going to the door and opening it.

To her surprise the man standing behind the door was the one and only shadowsinger. The princess nearly rolled her eyes at his presence but managed to keep them in place and only ignored him. The men looked at each other for some seconds before Eris walked past him without another word.

"Kallista..." he started. It was the first time he was seeing her in person and alone in the last fifty years. She looked different but the same, it was hard to explain for him what exactly had changed but he knew those years under the mountain had reshaped her in some way.

"Shadowsinger" she nodded going back to packing her things, underneath her annoyed facade her heart was speeding out of her chest as she tried to ignore the golden binds that tied them together. "What are you doing here?"
