The Light Festival was today.

Some others celebrated it as Starfall or the Spring Equinox.

It was a beautiful festivity mostly celebrated in the capital of the ice court, people would go out of their houses and celebrate in the streets with the people. Obviously since she was exiled from the capital city she couldn't this year, so Eris made sure to bring the festival to her.

He invited people and performers and Kallista had decorated the whole manor -with the help of magic of course.

People on their best attire, bubbles of golden wine and sparkling chandeliers decorated the halls of the manor bringing it back to it's former glory and liveness.

At a chaise lounge surrounded by more beautiful faes, all different from one another, in unique ways.

"Have you heard of the Cursebreaker? Apparently the night court kidnapped her and now she's the high lord's pet" A green skinned fae with elegant pointy ears said with a grin.

"And now she's stealing from other courts" Another fae that was sitting at her feet added.

"It just shows how the Night Court influences people to act in their own ways" a redhead said from besides her.

"They are wicked faes-" a blonde that was giving her terrible flashbacks starting saying when Kallista interrupted.

"They are brutes and stupid bastards that think for themselves, not wicked" she sipped on her wine.

"You sound as if you are speaking from personal experience?" The blonde asked raising a brow just like she did.

Kallista didn't like that.

"Once upon a time a new a few, but with time you learn it's not worth the time or the effort to trust those who are beneath you" she gulped down the rest of her wine feeling the weird bubbling feeling going down her throat as all the eyes in that circle looked at her but none of them could meet her eyes "I'm bored, excuse me"

She stood up cleaning in wrinkling her dress and walking away, the princess walked around the manor looking for the red hair of her lover.

Kallista finally found him near the dancing talking with some male faes a golden cup in his hand, looking as regal as ever. She unconsciously smiled as she walked towards him.

He saw her coming and he politely excused himself from the other fae and met her halfway.

"Hello, darling" he greeted putting his left hand around her waist and kissing her temple "I've heard you've been terrorizing some women"

"She asked, I answered" she smiled at him. He chuckled and leaned in to kiss her, her lips tasting of sparkling fairy wine.

"Of course you did" he replied, they were interrupted by trumpets and the announcer.

"It's almost time for sky lights, please make your way to the balconies" the announcer said signaling to the row of crystal doors that opened by themselves to show a big balcony.

"Come on, love" he took her hand and guided her to another balcony. It was apart from the main one, a small one and more private. Kallista leaned into him, his arm going around her waist and her hand on his chest.

It first started with a small blue light on the sky giving start to the spectacle of lights in the sky, that many believe is their ancestors shining down on them. Pink, green and blue sparkled in the sky.

"They are beautiful" Kallista said without taking her sight out of the sky. She couldn't believe she lost fifty years of this. It was just like she remembered when she was a child and her father put her in his hip helping her to get a better look at the lights. A knot formed on her throat at the memory of him but she willed it down.

"I heard humans call it Aurora Borealis" Eris explained looking down at her with beautiful hazel eyes.

"Even more of a beautiful name, it sounds so mystical" she said looking up at him with a grin.

"It does look mystical, like from another universe" the prince followed her line of thought. He looked into her eyes cupping her face with one hand feeling the scar beneath her eye under his thumb, he leaned in as if he was about to kiss her but stopped when their noses touched. "Marry me"

"What?" Her heart dropped on her chest as she gently removed Eris's hand from her face.

"Marry me, Kallista" he repeated but she moved away towards the railing of the balcony. She doesn't say anything making Eris worried he moved to be besides her the lights in the sky reflecting in her face and the tears welling in her eyes. "Kallista?"

"I can't Eris" she turned to face him taking his hand in hers "No matter how much I want to"

"Why? Is it because of your brother or-"

"It has nothing to do with my brother" she sighed at seeing his trouble face and she hated herself for making him think like that "I-" she hesitated before telling him "I have a mate"

"What-" his eyes widen in surprise and he went to take a step back before the princess stopped him.

"Stop, let me explain" she stopped him "it was before Amarantha. I thought he wanted me, I thought he felt the same as I did, and at the end he left me pregnant for another woman"

"My love..." he frowned at the history, he was aware that Kallista had a lover before Amarantha, but he did not know of the mate or the child.

"Let me finish. Even though I do not live him anymore, I can't marry you" she kissed one of his hands "because if I do, what would happen if one day you found your mate and you are married to me? It would not only break my heart but also theirs"

"I would never leave you, Kallista"

"Eris, no! That is- that is what I'm trying to say. I won't be the woman you leave your mate for, just like they did to me. Promise me, Eris. If you find your mate you won't let your love for me interfere"

"I promise you" he sighed after being silent for some seconds. He dropped a kiss on her forehead.

"Okay, now let's enjoy the rest of our night together" she pecked him on the lips.

"Okay" he smiled at her and hand in hand they reentered the party, not noticing the small moving shadow that left the edge of Kallista's dress as she stepped into the light.
