When they came back from that horrid place she locked herself in her room.

She was apparently to be the savior of all Phrythian.

She could barely save herself, could barely get out of bed in the mornings and now she was supposed to safe a whole country.

Kallista didn't want to do it. She wanted to go back home, she didn't need that responsibility over her shoulders.

But it was most probably that it would be thrown on her to carry like a slave did with whatever their master ordered.

She wanted to be free, as she was once when she was a child playing on her mother's lap.

Her chest tightened and she felt her nose burn with the feeling of tears coming but she held them back. A knock came to her door but she didn't answer, she didn't want to answer.

Another knock came again and again until the door opened by however was waiting on the other side. She felt the heavy steps coming towards her as she sat on the floor besides her bed. And then the same figure sat besides her.

She felt the familiar bond, even though now it was a shabby rotten and grey thing, she still felt it, overwhelmingly.

They sat there for hours in silence or that's what it felt like, really it was only a couple of minutes.

"You know, I used to blame you for what happened to me" her voice came scratchy as she stared soullessly at the wall in front of her. "Everyday, I wanted someone to blame. It made me this bitter mass without a soul, but maybe it's not you, maybe it's just the world that hates me"

"I used to blame me too" his voice came when she finished. "If I had told you the truth, if I had listened to you, I could have bring you here, safe and untouched. I still blame me"

"All of that is in the past now, I am somewhat grateful for what you did, it made me believe in myself, I hope you are happy with whatever woman you choose in the future" she tried to smile at him even though those words made her heart twist they were the right words. Kallista stood up from her place and went to walk away when Azriel spoke.

"I don't want another woman" he said and she was stunned. Those were the exact words she always wanted to hear fifty years ago, the only words she wanted to hear from his mouth but never did. He stood up too and she had to look up to see him in the eyes. "That night, the night I told you I didn't love you, I lied. I've always loved you, even right now I love you and I will love you until I turn into dust and I go back to the stars. I have regretted not running after you for fifty years, I'm not going to let you go this time, I promise"

She looked at him while he spilled his heart in front of her, but he had wounded her so deeply she didn't believe a single word that came out of his mouth.
