Kallista was dragging him, through the snow with a smile on her face.
"You are going to love it, Az" Kallista stated "They always decorate so beautiful when a celebration is held"
"Do they?" He grinned at her.
"Yes!-oh wait are you cold? I can summon a cape for you if you want"
"No I'm okay"
"Well, I am not cold but leathers is not exactly my tipical outfit choice" She looked over at him once and a blue energy surrounded her body and after a second the leathers were no longer there and they were now replaced bya silk cream dress and a blue velvet cape over it. "I've been practicing my magic at night, I think it's getting better"
"You have been training at nights? Alone? Aren't royals supposed to train with their parents?" Azriel questioned a little baffled that a royalty was training alone in the dark of night but it's not like women are really allowed to in some courts maybe it's the same here.
"Yeah, but my dad and brother are so busy lately, I prefer to do it alone, you know to not bother them" the princess replied.
"I still think you should tell them, you would be safer" He suggested with low voice.
"I am perfectly safe like this, thank you" She stated, as she finished her sentence, the dirth path in which they were walking stopped and a stone one started. They had entered the capital city of the winter court and it was jaw-dropping.
Wooden and ice buildings alike were in both sides of the wide stone street, snow falling like slight drizzle, some people sweeping the street to get rid off the excess of snow, polar bears and reindeers passing through the streets charging things on their backs that their owners put on them. It was everything he expected the city to be.
And suddenly he was worried about his wings, he didn't know if people would run from him and call him a monster because of them, he's pretty sure everyone has heard about 'brute ilyrians' at least once, but as he and Kallista walked hand in hand in the streets, people would mind their bussiness or send a warm smile their way. The shadowsinger was perplexed, why weren't people running in fear from him?
"Because they don't care about it" Kallista suddenly said, he snapped his head towards her and he realized he most have opened their bond "People in the winter court are not as cold as they say, we are thought to not judge a person for their looks, so unless you are mean to them, they won't care if you are ilyrian, a human, or from the autumn court"
Azriel huffed a laugh when he heard the last thing she said, autumn fae are indeed ruthless.
"Look, they are selling glazed cookies!" Kallista exclaimed, he once more dragged her to the stand of man with a peculiar moustache and a belly beer.
"Good Morning, Princess, what would you like today?" The gruffy man smiled at her while she was looking at the different sweets, the man turned to look at him and his eyes widened by a fraction "My, and who might you be, young man?"
"Azriel" The spymaster responded in his rough voice, the baker nodded with a aproving look on his face.
"Can I please get two glazed cookies?" Kallista asked with a smile pointing at the white cookies in the stand, the man grabs two f the cookies, puts them on a paperbag and gives them to Kallista who eagerly receives them. "How much would it be?"
"Do not worry, princess, it's a gift from my part" The baker states with a warm smile.
"Oh no, I can pay it" Kallista protested, she always felt bad when people did this.
"It's a birthday gift, go on, enjoy it" The man encouraged. The princess gave him one final smile and walked away. While they were walking side by side, Kallista opened the bag and pulled out the two cookies, she extended right hand at him to give him the cookie.
"Try it, i've been going to that bakery since I was child, they sell the most delicious things" She waved the cookie in her hand to emphazise it, and he took it with a small smile from her excited face. He brought it to his mouth bite a pice of it, instantly the sugary flavor extended in his mouth, it was way better than the desserts in the townhouse -not that he will ever say that outloud. "It's good isn't it?"
"It is actually" he stated looking at her.
The whole afternoon was spent looking throughout the city, taking strolls on the streets or going to stands because Kallista found it pretty or resourceful, and never once was there an awkward pause or an uncomfortable silence, the conversations flowing like water between them and more laughter than he can count.
While they were walking back to the castle, Kallista turned to look at him "Oh! I forgot to tell you"
Azriel raised an eyebrow in question and Kallista continued "There's going to be this big birthday party for me, and I- maybe you would like to come?"
Kallista was nervous about asking him, they have know eachother for some weeks now, but most of the weeks they spent together Azriel ignored her like fly in a room, however it all changed today, when he finally let himself open to her and she gratefully used the time.
But it is a possibility he can say no, to be completely honest, Kallista isn't the most secure person, she often needs the approval of other people to feel like she is enough, I guess growing up in a court full of bane women will do that to you.
"When is it?" Azriel questioned.
"In two days, the same as my birthday" They stopped in front of the stairs that go to the castle and turned to look at eachother "I'm sure that you won't have to train me that day"
"Of course i'll come" He affirmed with a small smile, he will come to her party and he will only go because of her.
"Great" Kallista smile at him and leaned in to kiss him in the cheek but in the last minute Azriel turned and kissed her on the lips in which she smiled into it, when she leaned away there was an unmistakeable twinkle in her eye, she went to walk away but Azriel tookher arm to pull her back and kiss her once more which left her giggling in the kiss. "Good night Azriel"
"Good night Princess"
And then he watched her, go up the stairs, the velvety cape on her back flowing slightly with the cold air around them, and when she reached the huge ice door, Kallista turned to look at him once more and smiled warmly, a smile that held so many promises and Azriel was very much confused about his feelings.
