Week 10
As I sit on the bed waiting for the doctor to come in and adjust my light sweater I don't know why they decided to turn the AC on today.
Last time I checked it's not hot outside yet it's only March. I picked up my phone from my lap and pressed Aahils contact.
He didn't even let the phone ring. I chuckle to myself at his eagerness.
His bright smile lit up the screen as he adjusted the phone.
"There's my beautiful fiancée." My cheeks heat up at the compliment a slight smirk slides onto my face
"It's not too late, is it? This was the only appointment they had." I asked since we live in different time zones I had to be mindful of when I scheduled my appointments.
Even though he said it doesn't matter it's what's better for me. But I would feel back for waking him up before he needs to or staying longer than he needs to.
"No, of course not! Did you eat breakfast?"
"No, I'm going to grab something after this. I kind of woke up late and almost missed this appointment." Just as he was about to say something there was a knock at the door. I tell them to come in and they begin to introduce themselves.
"Hi Jamila, it's nice to meet you. I'm Christina Jackson." My face brightens up as she introduces herself. It always makes me happy seeing black people, especially black women in this field.
It's not easy but it's important to have people who know firsthand what it's like to experience racial discrimination in places that are supposed to help you.
" It's nice to meet you too."
She looked at my hand and looked back up at you.
" I hate to be the one to say this but there are no phones past the waiting room so you'll have to turn that off."
" My fiancé lives in another country and this is the only way he's able to be present so is it okay if I just leave it on?"
She smiled and nodded her head.
"Yeah, that's fine. We mainly tell patients that so they don't get distracted during their appointments." She sat down on the stool next to me and placed her things on the table behind her.
"Okay, let's start then we can proceed with the ultrasound."
We went over the basic details just to verify what was on my file. She took my weight and blood pressure which were all in the normal range.
" I will say I'm really surprised that you're showing this early on. You said you're ten weeks right?"
She walked across the room to flip off the light
"Yeah, is that a bad thing?"
"Oh no, it's not a bad thing at all. Most women with their first pregnancy don't start showing till later on even with multiples." She says back on her stool and fiddled with the machine " but that's just better for you you get to take bump pics early on."
I chuckled at her statement. She handed me the towel and told me to tuck it in my waistband which was now sitting right above where my public area started.
" Does your partner have any questions before we start?"
He cleared his throat making me smirk " is it okay for her to travel?"
"Yes, it's safe to travel as long as you get the recommended shots for that location and follow the guidelines that are normally given. As for flying anything before thirty-six weeks is fine as well."
