A week later
It's been a whole week since the incident....Aahil kept his promise. He stayed by my side even if I told him it was okay. I gulped down some water and I felt his thumb rub the side of my hip. We were waiting for the midwife to come. Though I was not due for another appointment he wanted to make sure everything was fine.
I smiled while looking down at him tapping my belly as he narrated one of the many books that accompanied a song.
" and the mouse said no don't eat me Mr. cat for I am not tasty nor fat. But the cat did not care he simply wanted a quick late-night snack." The babies moved around quickly growing impatient waiting for the next part to come. I slid my phone from under me and started recording.
He pushed my top up and I shook my head already knowing what was going to happen next.
"The two ended up on a wild chase, not even the dust bunnies were safe. The mouse did not understand why the cat was acting weird. They ran...they ran....they ran..." He slowly moved closer inch by inch then suddenly blew raspberries on my belly startling the two listening to the story.
He smirked as they kicked back and I couldn't help but laugh. He looked up and playfully squinted his eyes. He looked back down and pecked my belly. "al'atfal , yabdu 'ana ladayna jaswsan fi 'aydina , waealayna 'an naltahiq min jadid fi makan mukhtalif"(children, it seems we have a spy on our hands we will have to rejoin in a different location over out) I playfully scoff and stop the recording.
"They are going to get you back with all the startling you do to them." He pulled my shirt back down while moving up to kiss me. "They started it first my love."
"It's not their fault they didn't know." He playfully scoffed and sat next to me on the heavily padded floor. "First, you ask me to tell them to stop kicking you then you stick up for them. What is this madness?!" He said dramatically, "I playfully hit his thigh and the door opened swiftly". The two guards that stood outside waited for her to walk in before closing the doors again.
She smiled as soon as her eyes landed on me. I tried getting up to greet her but she quickly shut that down. "No need, my queen!" She chuckled softly and joined us. She placed her bag down and started unpacking everything. "It is nice to see you, King Bashar. I'm happy you made it back home safe. My name is Nabila I will be your wife's midwife." She said gleefully.
"It's nice to meet the woman that has been making sure my wife is doing well. Thank you." She pulled on her gloved and smiled at him.
"It is my duty sir." She looked at me and before she even got the chance to ask me I grabbed the pillow that was propped up behind me, placed it closer to her, and laid down promptly.
She hummed as she took the measurement of my belly and felt around for a size estimate. She pulled out the Doppler and moved it around to find their heartbeats. Making sure she wrote everything down she helped me sit up to take my vitals.
"Everything is growing at the rate that it should be. Measuring at 33 weeks have you been experiencing any discomfort or anything?" She asked while holding her pen ready to jot down any information. "Mmm yes, my feet, back, and hips ache much more than last time... nausea has come back not as bad from the first couple of weeks but still bothersome."
She nodded her head, uncrossed her legs, and shuffled her way down to my feet. Moving then and observing if there were any differences. " I don't see any swelling that would indicate preeclampsia. Do you have any experiences of light sensitivity, reoccurring headaches, swelling in legs or other areas?"
I bit my lip trying to recount the days but there was nothing only occasional nausea. "No nothing." She hummed and nodded her head. "OK well, just to make sure I would like to take a blood sample have that sent off, and make sure that's not causing your aches and nausea. I'll also need to take a urine sample."
