Aahil insisted on waking up before the crack of dawn to drive out somewhere. I didn't even have the time to think he just told me to get up. Well more like he carried me the whole way because I wouldn't.
Not even for work am I up this early so here I am sat in the passenger side while he drives to an unknown destination on Christmas Day.
We passed through many tunnels to the point where the terrain changed from sandy dunes to dense tree filled forestry. After being here I stopped questioning the weather and seasons. No matter how many times he explained it to me it didn't make sense.
" so are you going to tell me where We are going?" I ask while still looking outside. If it washed so bright out I would be sleeping right now
" well if you were up this morning you would know."
" Aahil who wakes up that early not even the damn chicken was up" he chuckled and reached down for my hand.
I place my hand in his and he rubbed the back of my palm with his thumb.
" we didn't even get to open presents and what about the ones I got for your family?"
" they can get it when we come back but I wanted to make today special." It's just Christmas what is there to be made special about it? I was having a grand ole time just spending time with him.
" and what about the ones I got you I wanted you to open them!" I pout jokingly and he scoffs.
" you only care about me liking your gifts but not why I have planned for today?" I look over to him to see his eyebrow raised. " and you didn't have to get me anything habibti I already have the perfect gift"
A smirk slowly appears on his face after that corny comment but I'll give it to him corny but cute.
" no that's no all I care about and what do you mean it's rude to show up to domes house not bringing a gift."
He laughed while lightly shaking his head " my love you could have brought fruit if that was the case."
" Aahil what the hell do I look like showing up just bearing fruits what do I look like edible arrangements?"
" well you ar-" I swear he calls me the naughty one but that damn head of his is always in the gutter
" don't you even dare finish that." I warn playfully while he snickers.
" anyways don't worry about the gifts I brought them with us we might be staying there for two days."
As we venture higher up the mountain into the dense trees the snow slowly picks up it was starting to stick. I feel a light warm puff of air brush past my arm and the Christmas music now filling in the comfortable silence between us.
" Aahil how is it that you guys have pine trees here I'm still confused by this."
" well I don't know all the small details but I think it happened because a sapling was brought over many years ago by someone then boom we have this.
The mountains were already a colder climate due to the elevation it's kind of like how certain countries didn't naturally have a type of food or plant then when someone brought it over it either mutated the surrounding greenery or completely made it go instinct" he explained while I took in the scenery.
" hm who would have thought." He kissed the back of my hand as he drove and I sat back.
-
We slowly arrived at the entrance of the location he still had hidden from me. It was only noon so thankfully the sun was still out but I could tell it would be setting very soon.
