Against all odds

Chases POV:
We stayed on the bench awhile longer
After I thanked her for her card and her gift.

No one had ever written such nice things about me. It made me so happy.

The last sentence confused me though. "I will never forget you, even when you forget me."  I really hope that isn't  implying she thinks she's gonna die. Also why would she think I'd forget about her? Not that I think she'll die but hypothetically if she did. I would never ever forget her. Ever. How would that even be possible?

I looked at charli and she was shivering

Chase: "are you cold?"

She shook her head still shivering

Why does she always pretend she's fine. I don't get it. It just makes me feel bad.

Chase: "yes you are."

Well I don't have a sweater- wait I do.

I grabbed the gift bag and pulled out the sweater she made
I pulled it over her head and sat closer to her trying to warm her up

I don't understand how it's even physically possible to be even the slightest bit cold in this weather but I guess that's just how chemo works.

I took our hat off my head and put it on her head

Chase: "should we start walking back?"

She nodded

I looked down at her feet and noticed how uncomfortable her shoes look. Especially to walk in.

I took off my shoes

Charli: "what- what are you doing"

I kneaded down in front of her and took off both of her high heels.I grabbed my the sneakers I just had on and put them on her feet

They were way to big for her so I tied them up super tight.

Il walk barefoot. Il be fine.

Charli: "thanks. those heels were killing me"

Clearly.

I wrapped my arms around her and picked her up

Chase: "I will carry you back"

Once we got back to my place, she was asleep in my arms
I put her down on the couch and grabbed some blankets for her

Once I got back she was awake

Charli: "we can still go somewhere else to eat"

No way. We aren't going anywhere right now. First off all it's too late to go somewhere to eat. Second of all, look at her. She's exhausted.

Chase: "no. We'll have dinner here"

There is absolutely no way I'm going out with her again. She'd fall asleep standing up

Charli: "what do you have?"
Chase: "umm"

Nothing

Chase: "I mean- I got leftover Mac and cheese"

She smiled and nodded
