After drifting in and out of sleep for hours, you finally opened your tired eyes. You had barely slept at all due to someone rolling around and muttering in their sleep all night. Instead of the soft murmuring now, all you could hear was silence.
Turning over, you saw that the bed was empty, void of the man you wanted to see most. His pillow sat there looking lonely without him laying there. You stretched out to grab it and bring it to your chest. It was both soft and cold from no longer having the heat of him there. Inhaling deeply, you snuggled into it pretending it was him.
It smelled of him. Dark embers, fresh soap, leather, and the ungodly good scent that followed him around.
A crack of bright light shown through the curtains of the window. Sitting up to get a better look, you saw that there was a chair brought up to the window, as if someone had been sitting there.
Crawling out of bed, you let out an involuntary yawn and walked over to the chair. The cold floor shocked your bare feet and you shivered wishing it wasn't so freaking cold in this room.
The chair sat facing towards the window with it's cushion looking as if someone had just been sitting in it. Plopping down, you felt the residual warmth of the last person there. Snuggling into the pillow you had brought with, you reached up and pulled the curtain back.
You were hit with a brightness that you weren't expecting. A large planet was taking up the entire window, meaning you were pretty damn close to it. Blinking quickly in surprise, you shot out of the chair and dropped the pillow.
Running over to the closet, you threw it open and grabbed the first pair of scrubs you could find. Nearly tripping over while shoving a leg into the pants, you hopped over to your socks and shoes. After forcing your foot into them, you half ran half hobbled as you pulled the shirt over your head and went towards the door.
You knew something was happening, but you weren't sure what.
The doorway to his room hissed as it opened for you and you started speed walking down the hallway. It was buzzing with excitement as folks walked past you in herds. Confused as to what was happening, you scanned their faces for someone familiar.
Madison nearly knocked into you as she passed trying to get somewhere.
"Woah, slow down. Where's the fire?" you asked as you grabbed her arms to steady her.
Gasping as if she had run a mile, Madison took a breath before saying, "Where have you been?" She grabbed your messy bed-head and smirked, "Did you forget what today was?"
Confusion danced across your face as you stared at her in a blank state of worry, "What the hell did I miss?"
"Have you like been on a hiatus since Dec 2020?"
"Wait, what?" you asked.
"Nevermind, inside joke," she said.
"Okay, but seriously, Mads, what's happening? Are we landing or something?"
She nodded as she gripped your hand and started pulling you down the hallway. Dodging and weaving through people, you followed behind her as she dragged you towards the med bay. You opened your mouth to ask another question but didn't have the time as she brought you into the supply closet.
Slamming the door shut, she flipped on the light and turned to you, "What happened yesterday?"
"Yesterday?" you asked, "Could you be more specific? I feel like I just took an almost 2 year nap and just woke up."
"Nevermind that, but bestie, the Commander has gone missing."
Your mouth fell open as you stared at her in disbelief, "Wait, what? I just saw him last night."
"Well everyone is talking about how he stormed into the navigation room and had them go to this random planet that wasn't even on the route towards anything. And then,"
You held up a hand to cut her off, "Stop right there. What?"
"I just said that -"
" No I heard you, I'm just confused. When did this happen?"
You thought back to the warm chair. How could he be missing if he was just in his room? Hadn't he just been lying next to you under the covers?
"I don't know," Madison said with a shrug. "All I know is that they are sending a search team out to find him because this isn't like him."
You nodded as you turned and grabbed the door handle and pulled it open. Madison put out a hand to stop you but you kept walking.
"Where are you going?" she asked as you nearly dragged her out of the closet with you. "You can't go anywhere, we need to work."
Releasing your hold on her, you stopped and turned towards her, "I don't care, I'm going to the departure dock and I'm going to find out the fuck is happening. I need to find my man."
(Hiiiiiiiii - long time no see...heh heh. Sorry y'all - but I've just been a litttttttttle busy. I know I haven't updated since Dec of 2020....but um, well I kinda graduated college and have been working full time. But now I'm unemployed so, here I am. Please don't hate me. I hope you all have been doing well. I left this part kinda open ended because I need to reread / redo the other sections and figure out how the hell to finish this story. Anyway, I hope you all will give me some grace and are excited about me coming back, because I know I'm so damn excited! That's all, love you - muah! xoxo)
