CHAPTER 21

It's kinda empty without Hyunjin. It's been a week since Hyunjin stops visiting and Yeji's parents understand their term. Yeji made it clear that she's not interested.

"so tell us. do you have someone you really like until you turn down a man like Hyunjin?" Hyunbin asked, giving up on assuring his daughter.

"I do. please give me time. then, I'll introduce him to you both." Yeji sighs.

"alright. We won't be forcing you anymore. I thought you'll get along with Hyunjin but you're a grown up now." Yejin smiles proudly at her.

"thank you."

Ryu walks down the stairs, preparing to go to his schedule this evening. He just got back from the agency about two hours ago so he had time to rest a little.

"where are you going? Han is absent." Ryu approaches Yuna who's sitting on the couch.

"my friend will pick me up. don't worry." Yuna smiles at him then looks back at her phone.

"Wonpil will go with you. I'm fine by myself. I can ask for another driver." Ryu takes out his phone.

"oh, no need. She'll be with her driver." Yuna looks up. "she offered."

"then... I want their number." Ryu ruffles her hair. "as soon as you meet them, ask for it."

Ryu is still having a busy day shooting. Regardless, he made some times to call Yuna or the driver just for a simple update. Looking at the time, they should be on their way home.

"any news, sir?" Wonpil approached him with a drink that he ordered.

"nope." Ryu looks at his watch. It's already past 10pm.

"Mr. Shin. Let's do a little touch up then we'll do another take."

Ryu follows the staff to the greenroom. Ryu starts to get worried, actually. maybe they're still on the way, maybe the traffic is crazy, maybe Yuna fell asleep in the car.

Halfway through the session, Wonpil rushed to the studio, immediately stopping the shoot.

"Ryu! Sir! Yuna!" Wonpil looks panicked. "she got into an accident!"

Hearing that, Ryu immediately takes off his suit jacket, throwing it to one of the staff and rushed outside. Wonpil follows him hurriedly after excusing themselves.

"c'mon!"

Soon they reached the car. Ryu keeps pushing Wonpil to go faster. Ryu knows where they are before but the place of the accident is still unknown to him.

"okay, you need to calm down just a little. I'll try to get there faster." Wonpil drives much faster than their usual pace. He too, worried about Yuna.

For about 15 minutes of sitting and waiting in the moving car, they finally arrived. There are a white sedan and a truck crashed on the side of the road. The car squashed between the truck and a tree.

Ryu's heart beats faster and faster with each step closer to the white car. There's nobody inside. The siren of some ambulance can be heard by him. he runs towards one of them, checking where his sister might be.

"oh no, no, no... please." Ryu finally found her.

Yuna is laying on the stretcher unconscious. The paramedics are doing everything to keep her vitals stabilized.

"move!" Ryu pushed some of them to get a good look at her.

"I'm sorry sir. Let us take care of her." one of them said then the other pulled him away.

"calm down. calm down." a police officer drag him away from the ambulance. "are you the family?"

"yes. Please let me see her."

Tears starts running down his face. Wonpil is there too, rubbing his back.

"okay. Let them work on her." the officer starts guiding him to sit down. but, he seems to not be able to take his eyes off of Yuna. "the truck driver is already taken to the station. Supposedly, he's drunk while driving and when the car wants to go, he swerved into it, causing a huge damage to the car."

"I don't care about that damned car! my sister is dying!" Ryu stands up, then starts running back to the ambulance.

"we're losing her. there are some internal bleedings and her head is severely damaged."

Ryu heard them said. He gets into the ambulance, immediately holding Yuna's hand.

"Yuna. Hey. Stay with me."

The paramedics can't hold him back. with this situation, they're still trying to bring her back.

"what the hell are you guys doing?! Do something!" Ryu is beyond mad. There's no slight movement from his dear sister. "please. please Yuna. I'm begging you." Ryu lowers his head, resting on Yuna's shoulder.

They all went silent when a long beep rings to their ear. Ryu looks at the little monitor beside the stretcher.

"we're really sorry for your loss."

"no." Ryu looks at the one who said it. "do something."

"we've tried to bring her back three times. Her vitals are too weak, she's losing too much blood. There are some broken bones that caused the organs to-"

"shut up!" Ryu hurriedly shakes Yuna's lifeless body. "you can't go, Yuna. Please, come back." Ryu cries uncontrollably as his body trembles beside the girl. "wake up!"

"sir." They touched his back.

"don't touch me!" Ryu slaps away their hand. "come back, Yuna, please." he said as his legs gave out.

Ryu drops to the metal car floor, hand still stuck to Yuna's tightly. 'this isn't real.', he thought.

"let's go." Wonpil slowly picks him up.

Ryu takes a final look at Yuna's pale face. He caresses it ever so gently. The oxygen mask is already taken off.

"I'm sorry." Ryu leans in, with a broken heavy heart, placing a gentle kiss on her bleeding forehead. "I'm really sorry." He rests his head beside her head on the bed.

This is even worse than when his father died. The pain, the guilt, and all his effort to protect her, all gone just because of a reckless driver.

"let's go. Let them take care of her."
