IT'S CHRISTMAS EVE AND RAELYN HAD BEEN RUNNING AROUND EXCITEDLY ALL DAY. as soon as she woke up in the morning she came running into yours and derek's room, jumping excitedly into the bed and waking the two of you. it warmed your heart when derek grabbed her into his arms and littered kisses all over her face, making her squeal and giggle. he pretended to be asleep as he held her to his chest, not letting her escape despite the fight she put up. you couldn't believe how incredibly lucky you were for your family.
so for the entire day, you and derek tried finishing wrapping all the presents while raelyn was occupied with her toys in her room. it was a hard task as raelyn always came in the room so often because she had an urge to be near you for some reason. usually she wanted to be with derek and wherever he was as she's grown really close with her dad. today she's been latched onto you which made gift wrapping hard. you would've left derek to finish wrapping the present but the poor guy takes fifteen minutes to wrap only one gift. the only time you guys completely finished was when she was down for a nap.
then you took notice of derek's behavior as well. anytime he was on the phone he'd leave the room or would go outside to talk. you weren't sure what was going on but it did make you quite worried. he tried brushing it off as scott needing help and didn't want to worry you. but you knew derek inside and out. you knew anytime he was lying or hiding something. he could never hide anything from you. you would find it out sooner or later and because it was the holidays, you decided to question him after it was all over. especially since you had raelyn to think about.
"what time is everyone going to be over?" derek asked when he stepped into the kitchen to see you cutting vegetables. he came up behind you and wrapped his arms around your waist, planting a kiss on the top of your head.
"around five, six the latest. we're gonna do presents with everyone tonight since we decided to stay in." you told him, leaning back onto his chest causing him to let out a wolfish purr. "everyone should be gone by ten though. i don't want raelyn up past nine."
"sounds good." he murmured, dipping his head down to your neck and leaving gentle kisses along your skin. you giggled when his teeth began lightly nipping at your skin, a playful growl rumbling from his chest.
