HE WAS PUSHING EVERYONE AWAY AGAIN – HE WAS PUSHING YOU AWAY AS WELL. there was one thing you and derek promised to each other when you both fell into your feelings for one another. that was to never push the other away whenever things got tough. you knew how trapped derek could get into his head whenever he was losing control over his emotions. he surrounded himself, for so long, with such heavy built walls that no one knew how to knock down. you were the first person to see through his facade since the moment you met him.

derek wasn't a hard person to understand but he necessarily wasn't the easiest one either. his stone cold, hard exterior was enough to make anyone run from him and steer clear of the name derek hale. endless warnings from your friends just went in one ear and out the other because you didn't dare to listen anything they said about him. something in the way his eyes appeared anytime you saw him drew you in like a moth to a flame. there was more to derek than what meets the eye. you knew it deep down.

to your luck and much to derek's dismay, he lingered around when an out of control alpha terrorized the town. part of the reason was so he could keep scott in check with his newfound beta abilities. at least that was the big reason he tried telling himself. mainly it was due to the fact he was certainly intrigued by your warm and calming aura, and so desperately he felt the need to keep you safe. as long as you were in his line of sight, he could ensure your safety entirely.

being around derek often made it easier to figure him out. he could sense you trying to figure him out, to try and read him so you were able to understand him. this terrified him. except he couldn't allow himself to stay away. not when you were consistently making sure he was okay, despite his reckless actions and decisions when he became alpha himself and formed himself a pack. he didn't understand how someone so delicate and full of love like you could care for someone as dangerous as him.

he thought being alone and wallowing in guilt and shame was what he deserved. after all he blamed himself for the death of his family though the flaming destruction to his home caused by hunters were the sole reason. if it weren't for him, they wouldn't have had any knowledge of them. he truly believed losing his family was his fault. he would never allow himself to be free of that type of pain.

he believed he didn't deserve happiness, and that he was better off alone. when you started pushing through his walls, seeing through his front, he began losing control of his emotions.
