DEREK COULDN'T PINPOINT WHAT EXACTLY HE WAS FEELING. there were so many emotions running through him which made him very irritable. but the emotion he could very well pick apart was anger. mainly directed at himself for letting you go so easily. he should've put up a bigger fight for you, to keep you with him where he knew you truly belonged. he hadn't meant to push you. he was just hurt over your consideration of moving away for college.
if he could take back the night where the two of you fought for hours over it, he would in a heartbeat. he would give absolutely anything and everything if it meant he could have you again. as soon as you walked out the door that night, he realized he lost such a big piece of himself. the void left him so distraught, it took him a while to gain control over his wolf. he often wolfed out and lost control but eventually he gained control of himself.
though all that control was thrown out the window as he learned of your return back home. he knew he shouldn't have found out the way he did. he overheard stiles mentioning your name and within a blink of an eye, he had the lanky teen pinned to the wall forcefully while snarling at him and threatening him to find out any information about you. this lead to him learning about you having been back in beacon hills for a little over a week and settling in to a new apartment not far from his loft.
all this brought him to where he was now, standing outside the door to your apartment. he was debating on if this was a good idea or not. he thought he had this all planned out but truth was, he didn't know what he was even gonna say to you. especially since he didn't know if you would want to see him after all this time.
but his body had a mind of its own as his fist was suddenly knocking on the door before he could stop himself. and as soon as you opened the door, all the air swept through his lungs and he stared down at you with wide innocent eyes, resembling much like a puppy. everything you gave off flooded his senses and he had to release a deep breath to keep a hold of himself.
"derek..." you whispered, feeling your heart race in your chest at the sight of the guy you've been missing for so long. "i–what are you doing here? how did you know i was back?" your tone wasn't like what he was expecting from you. he was expecting anger, so the soft and tenderness in your voice made him feel much more calm.
