YOU AND DEREK WERE NEVER REALLY BIG ON THE ENTIRE VALENTINE'S DAY STUFF. you both didn't care for it, not knowing why there was always one day in the year to come up with extravagant ideas for a significant other. if you truly loved someone, you didn't just need one day to prove all that. you would show that every single day. which is why valentine's day was just another normal day for you and derek, with the exception of giving cute gifts. you guys usually did what you often do, staying in and being too entrapped with one another.
except this valentine's day was different. derek overheard scott, stiles, and boyd discussing how they were making such special plans for their girlfriends. whether it be endless surprises for them, taking them out to fancy restaurants for dinner, and spoiling them. this made derek overthink.
he knew you didn't need an extravaganza on valentine's day to know whether or not he loves you. he loved how similar the two of you were when it comes to these things. you both showed your love through affection and actions. it really came to light when you two often were too keen on taking care of one another. your love was more than giving expensive gifts and doing romanticized things that was characterized as normal for valentines. everyday you and derek were growing with each other. you both had the perfect balance and it brought you warmth and a strong connection.
but that one voice in the back of his mind seemed to gut him. he needed reassurance for himself. he wanted to do something somewhat big for you and take you by surprise. he needed to see himself that you knew how much he loved you and would do absolutely anything for you. he wanted to give you the world and more, to love you forever unconditionally.
throughout the day, his plans were simple and cute. he woke you up by littering kisses over your exposed skin and surprised you with a delicious breakfast. then the two of you stayed in bed for a little while, wrapped up in each other arms and sharing sweet moments. you would've been okay with staying in bed with him but he had other plans.
he took you out to lunch at your favorite small diner. you had a small back and forth argument about wanting to do something for him. he simply brushed it off, stating you didn't need to do anything for him as all he needed was just you. you knew you weren't going to win as he always got what he wanted.
when it was nearing the late evening, that's when derek had you get yourself ready for a bigger surprise and plan. he left out a deep red colored thin strapped satin dress and silver glittery heels. the dress reached to your mid thigh and the heels paired perfectly with your overall look. your makeup was light and subtle not wanting to go too overboard.
