DEREK WASN'T SURE WHAT MADE HIM SUDDENLY WAKE UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. his wolf suddenly clawed anxiously at him, almost like it was trying to tell him something. he jumped into full alertness as he sat up in bed, cautiously enough to not make up his sleeping mate beside him. he planted a soft kiss to her temple before carefully climbing out of bed and checking out the loft for any threats.

he knew the loft was completely safe and guarded. it's been two years since beacon hills had any supernatural threats so there was no way there was any looming danger. but still, something was itching at him to be awake and on full alert so he had to check to make sure everything for sure was perfect.

seeing there was nothing to worry about and his wolf woke him for no reason, he let out a frustrated sigh. he made his way back to the room he shared with his mate. as he was about to lay back down beside her he came to an abrupt halt, a scent so sweet clouding his senses.

the scent was coming off of her so strongly it nearly made him lose all control. the only thing that kept him grounded was the fact her scent was a mixture with his which was enough to satisfy his wolf. what caught him completely off guard was the sound of a third heartbeat in the room.

his eyes went wide at the quick tiny sound of a beating heart coming from inside his mate. the sudden realization of his progeny inside her hit him. she was pregnant with his child. with his pup. and his wolf growled in such content and possession at the fact they were going to be parents.

everything about this seemed perfect to him. he was going to have a family of his own. as scary and nervous as being a father sounded, he was overly excited to have his own little pup with the girl he loves. nothing could take this away from him. the little life growing inside of his mate brought him a wave of love like no other.

he climbed back into his spot beside her, his arms wrapping around her and pulling her to his chest. she stirred slightly in her sleep then relaxed when she buried her face into his chest. his wolf made him release a purr like noise, something to which he would never admit. his hand moved to rest on her flat belly that was housing his pup. a small happy grin took over his face as he envisioned the future of his now growing family.

derek didn't know he fell back asleep until he woke up to his mate trying to get out of bed. he released a low growl and tightened his arms around her, pulling her back against him. he listened intently to hear her and their child's heartbeat before completely relaxing.

"derek!" she giggled when his nose brushed against a ticklish spot on her neck. "c'mon, let's get out of bed."

"let's stay in bed all day and watch movies. we're supposed to get that storm today, remember?" he reminded her, continuing to inhale her still sweet scent mixed with his.

"oh yeah..." she trailed, letting out a hum when he littered a few gentle kisses on her neck. suddenly nausea filled her stomach and she quickly rushed out of derek's arms and into the bathroom. she dropped to the floors on her knees, hovering over the toilet just in time for her to throw up from the morning sickness.

"baby?" derek mumbled as he crouched down beside her, holding her hair from her face with one hand and rubbing her back with the other.

once she finally stopped throwing up, she leaned back into his body for comfort and closed her eyes in exhaustion. "fucking hell." she whined.

"sweetheart, please don't freak out or anything but..." he trailed, trying to find the courage to tell her she was pregnant. an underlying fear of her being upset about being pregnant made it hard for him to tell her the truth.

"i'm pregnant." she finished the sentence for him, turning to look up at his face that gave it all away.

he nodded, "i woke up in the middle of the night for some reason, like i was almost feeling uneasy. your scent changed and i could hear another heartbeat coming from you."

she sat in silence for a moment as she processed his words. she always thoughts of starting a family with derek but wasn't sure how he felt about it. though when she saw the look full of joy and love on his face, every worry went out the window and nothing but warmth filled her body.

"we're gonna be parents." she whispered, a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.

"you're carrying my pup." he said, hand going straight to her stomach possessively. this child was a part of him and her, and nothing will ever take this away from him. this was his chance of a family again and this is what he deserved.

"our pup." she told him with a giggle, enjoying the way he was protective and possessive of his child she was carrying inside her.

he kissed her forehead before helping her stand up. he watched with a worried look, waiting to see if she was gonna possibly throw up again. when she seemed to be okay he let go of her hands reluctantly.

"i'm gonna make breakfast and tea for us. decaf tea for you since you're housing my child and i need the two of you healthy, okay?" he told her in a gentle firmness. his wolf didn't want her out of his sight but the growling of their stomachs pushed him to leave her be for a few moments.

her heart fluttered at the caring tone in his voice. it all felt perfect. "okay. i'm gonna freshen up and get the bed ready for us."

as derek went downstairs to cook breakfast, she began brushing her teeth to rid the taste of vomit from earlier. she then washed her face and threw her hair into a messy bun before heading into their bedroom. she fixed the pillows and blankets to their bed to make it more comfortable for them to spend the day in bed watching movies.

derek entered the room carrying to mugs and one big plate of breakfast for the two of them to share. he placed them both on the bedside table and got into bed beside her. "how you feeling now?" he rubbed her stomach again, his primal instincts taking over.

"better. it'll be a while until the morning sickness goes away completely." she told her, resting her head on his shoulder. "i can't believe we're gonna be parents."

"i can't either," he smiled at the thought, continuing to rub her stomach affectionately. "i'm so excited for this. the love and joy i feel now is like no other. we're gonna have a family."

she giggled, leaning up to plant a kiss on his jaw. "i love you derek."

"i love you sweetheart. always."
