YOU WERE WELL AWARE OF WHAT YOU WERE GETTING YOURSELF INTO WHEN TESTING DEREK'S PATIENCE. in fact, you did it solely on purpose to get a reaction out of him. at first he didn't know what you were doing. he assumed you were just got caught up in being friendly with everyone at the beach party and having fun. until he took notice of the way you smiled and batted your lashes when having a conversation with a guy. and he was quick to get possessive.
things between you and derek the last couple weeks had been a little bit rough and distant. he had been too busy working and often seeming to put his job before your relationship. you weren't at all bothered by the fact he was working, not one bit as you were proud of him running his own company. what bothered you was him putting it before your guys' relationship when he promised to never let that happen.
the distance from derek left you feeling rather lonely and attention starved. so when he told you the plans his friends made and were invited to go, you were hesitant. the thought of socializing with people you didn't know too well left you weary. it also wasn't something you wanted to do either. you preferred to stay in and be an introvert. but derek had other plans.
he insisted you accompany him on this beach party as a day to get out of the house together and have some fun. only for him to venture off with his friends. this is what you didn't want. you weren't going to follow him around like a lost puppy as he enjoyed time with his buddies. and with your shy nature, you weren't one to take initiative to meet new people. so all of this was out of your comfort zone.
derek knew this about you and had always been sweet and accommodating for you. he was always extra cautious when you were in such social environments. the protective side of him never failed to kick in and constantly made sure you were comfortable.
you weren't sure what was changing between you two but you did not like it one bit. if anything, you were fearful to lose him. you love him more than anything. he was the best thing to have ever happened to you.
you watched him from the back deck of his friends beach house, seeing him laugh amongst his friends as they played beer pong. everyone was either on the beach or inside watching whatever was on tv. you sat by your lonesome, a water in hand while you waited for derek to be ready to leave. if you weren't so nice and patient, you would've left him here all alone.
