"God, I thought I'd die." Max jokes after he got revived with water.
"Leah, I think something needs to be done about that book." Thomas said.
"It's not the book, maybe you guys picked a spell and didn't recite it right, what spell did you pick?" Leah asked.
"I was going through the book, looking at some spells too and I unconsciously read one out. Max was in front of me and just then we heard an hissing sound, the next thing we saw were the snakes on Max's leg." Adams explained.
"Let me see the spell." Leah said, picking the book she had dropped on the floor.
Adams showed her the page he found the spell.
"Just don't recite it out loud and keep everyone out of your kind while reading it, no risks." He said with caution.
"Alright." Leah said, after reading the spell she concluded that Adams might have recited it wrongly.
"Adams maybe you recited it wrongly." She said.
"There isn't any right way to recite a spell Leah, you just say it with authority and belief. Also, while going through this book, I saw some weird stuff. Drawings and pictures of humans with horns and forked tails, scary myths, you don't have to be told that all of these are connected to Darkness Leah." Adams told her.
"Please don't be like Alex now Adams." She said.
"Leah I told you the same thing, my mom did. Now Adams says so too, why won't you just agree that this book is pure evil and was probably planted in your room?" Alex asked Leah.
"Why won't you just believe me on this?" Leah asked her back.
"Leah from what Adams said about the contents of that book, it's pure evil, we all know, it's not going to be of help." Max said.
"You too Max? What is wrong with all of you?!" Leah spoke in anger.
"The thing is, you don't want to listen. Your overconfidence in that book's gonna put is in trouble." Diana said, pissed with Leah and her 'book'.
"Enough! I don't want to hear any contradicting word about my opinion of this book and if you all are against it, I do not care." Leah said in a loud voice.
"Leah at least..." Thomas said, only for Leah to cut him short.
"Not another word from you or anyone else." She said.
"That's enough Leah!" A voice sounded, moderately loud enough to suggest the speaker's authority.
They all turned back, it was the League Head, Alberta Green, a slightly old woman close to her seventies already. She had blonde hair already turning grey with sharp emerald eyes that complimented her round face, with her stature if was easy to conclude that she must have very athletic in her youthful days.
"Mistress, you didn't inform us that you would be coming." Adams said, going to her.
"It was urgent so I used a portal." She replied walking past him to Leah. "Leah, you're letting Darkness get you where they want you." She said.
"Meaning?" Leah asked nonchalantly.
"Meaning, that book belongs to Darkness and was planted in your room at 12 midnight today, you were asleep, I knew because I had to." She answered.
"Okay, this is creepy crazy and I'm not buying that Head!" Leah said, disagreement evident on her face.
"Well you have to, we must destroy that book. It's such simple logic Leah, if the League thought you all needed help in anyway we would send it through Adams and not through a book in one of your rooms. If we wanted you all to have a book which would aid your mission we would not keep it in one of your houses and expect it to get to the rest. Leah dear, this book is here for division which is why we're destroying it." League Head Alberta said in finality.
"You know what? I'm out of here." Leah said, picking her book and bag. "If you all are not going to believe me, then I see no reason to work with people who don't share the same ideas as I do." She left, close to tears.
"Leah please wait." Adams shouted after her.
"Let her go Adams, this was probably meant to happen, let her go. If she doesn't come back, the battle would still be." Mistress Alberta said. "You all would need to be well equipped and prepared. Seemingly, we just lost a member of our realm, hopefully, we might get her back, though I don't really think so. The battle is closer than ever, be in togetherness and always be alert and prepared. I'll be leaving now." She said and disappeared almost immediately.
"Today has been really eventful for everyone, maybe we should all just go home right now, right Adams?" Thomas said.
"Right. Good night everyone. Alex, came with my dad's old car, want me to drop you off?" Adams asked Alex.
"Alright." Alex replied him. Everyone said their goodbyes and left.
When Adams and Alex were alone in the car she asked, "Leah reacted very strangely, leaving the group is not a one-day thought, don't you think we should go check on her?"
"I was going to say the same thing but it's quite late so I ..." Adams was saying but Alex interrupted.n
"It's fine, let's go, I'll call my mom and tell her I'll be home a bit late." She said.
"Alright then." Adams said, starting the car and taking a quick left turn.
They got to Leah's house in less than ten minutes after and Adams pressed the doorbell. Leah opened the door.
She was about closing it when Adams pushed it back and said, "Leah please just listen to us, please."
"And what do you have to say?" She asked.
"At least let us in first." Alex said.
"If it's about my book, forget it. Right now, you're both disturbing my dinner so go away!" Leah said and slammed the door shut.
"She's not gonna come around easily." Alex said sadly as they both turned down and walked back to the car they came in.
"I don't think she's gonna come around at all. Leah seems possessed by something much more stronger than her." Adams said hopelessly.
"It's okay, right now we can only hope for the best, she doesn't seem ready to take to any of us." Alex said.
"Right. I'll drop you at your house now, it's late." Adams said when they were finally in the car. He drove and took Alex home then went home too.
