Old Secrets

Alex got home very late that night. She tried to sneak into her room, on reaching the stairs her mom caught her.

"Where are you coming from young lady?" The voice made Alex lose balance a little and she staggered. She turned around to face her mom.

"Mom!" She said, her voice filled with surprise.

"Alex?" Lyla said, raising a brow.

"Uh..mom, something..."

"Don't give any excuse! You could have called at least. Jake was here and I was so angry with him for coming without you when you actually ran off with no hint."

"I'm sorry mom but Leah had a dream and called..."

"What dream? My point remains why didn't you call?"

"Mom I'll explain everything. Let's sit." Alex said, leading her mom to a sofa in the living room.

"So tell me." Lyla inquired.

"I was waiting for a cab to return home with Jake when Leah called. She said she had a dream about the realm. She was so scared she called for a quick meeting. It's why I left the way I did without telling Jake anything. He's only human mom, he can't know I'm a witch. I'm really sorry I didn't call, we got so engrossed..."

"You're fine so it's okay. What was the dream about?"

"It told us to prepare for battle as it sill be rough. Also a message to Leah to be careful so Darkness doesn't convert her from good to evil."

Lyla was quiet for some time and Alex feared she didn't believe her.

She finally spoke, "Alex, about this battle, sweetheart, I don't think you should go ahead to fight Darkness."

"Mom, what are you saying? This was bound to happen and you always knew. I've known of this battle since I was seven and you were so proud that your daughter was chosen to fight for the realm, what changed mom?"

"I was blind Alex. I couldn't see the danger. Darkness is evil, they'll do anything to take back what belongs to them no matter what."

"What do you mean 'take back what belongs to them' mom? Did our realm steal something from the Dark Side?" Alex asked her mom in confusion.

"What? No, no."

"So what are you talking about?"

"Actually the battle is very dangerous, that's my point."

"Mom that doesn't match what you said. What do we have that belongs to Darkness?"

"Alex, the same clash between light and darkness took your father from us. He didn't listen to me and fought for our realm, they killed him. I can't think of you suffering the same fate my child."

"I would avenge dad's death when we defeat Darkness once and for all mom" Alex said placing one hand on her mom's right shoulder. "It's going to be fine."

Her mom only sighed.

"We should go to bed, it's late."

"Don't you eat to eat something?"

"I had coffee with Jake, I'm okay." Alex said as she stood up with her mom and they both went upstairs together. After saying goodnight to each other they retired to their rooms.

That night, Alex couldn't sleep, she kept thinking of what her mom said; THEY'LL DO ANYTHING TO TAKE BACK WHAT BELONGS TO THEM

"Mom sure is hiding something from me, she didn't give a suitable explanation to what she said. I better just get my mind off it." She said and soon was taken by nature for the night.
