That night, neither Alex nor her mother could sleep. Alex kept thinking, her thoughts were more situated on the future than the present and there was this voice telling her that she wouldn't be a part of that future she kept thinking of. Alya had said that she had 'a bit' of hope that they would defeat Darkness. It was obvious that she wasn't even trying to give them hope for victory at all, as if she knew they'd lose but wanted them to still face it on their own.
Just then, her thoughts drifted to Stephanie. So her sister is the actual chosen one and not her. Wow! The twists and turns! She smiled, a bitter smile. Both her and her mother knew Stephanie too well, the last thing she wanted was to get caught up in anything related to who she truly is. Stephanie wanted a simple human life and had made that clear to everybody alright. Alex tried to picture her reaction to all this in her head as she lay quietly on her bed in the dark.
Then it hit her. What if they come for Stephanie? With what her mother has said Alex was sure they were being watched. There's still a relationship bonding them together, not so? What if they try to take Stephanie away? They'd probably think she's more useful if they find out she's actually chosen and not Alex.
It seemed like both the mother and her eldest daughter shared one mind as Lyla had the same thoughts running round her head. She sat by the window on a wooden chair. Holding a framed photo of her late husband, she said "I wish you were here right now." She hugged the photo tightly.
She was worried, not because of what Alex told her about Stephanie, but because of what she didn't tell Alex about Stephanie, this same secret no one else knew, not even Stephanie. Stephanie was her father's daughter alright, so of course she took a lot from her father, more than Alex did. Her paternal grandfather wasn't notable in his realm for just nothing. It was a possession. One that had been passed on to her late husband and now, to Stephanie.
She knew what was coming. Darkness. Darkness was coming. Not for her, not for Alex, but for Stephanie. Stephanie belonged to that realm more than she belonged to light, it is an abominable possession for their realm. It is evil if it isn't properly controlled. She had it, she had it in her. That same beast they drover her grandfather crazy, the same one her father had to learn so badly to take. Now it was in Stephanie. Knowing Darkness, the woman knew they were only waiting for the right time to strike. Alex didn't have what they wanted, it's Stephanie.
Now Lyla found herself at a crossroad, where to go? Should she use this forbidden possession for those who forbid it? Or should she give back to Caesar what was his?
All of this, would be for Stephanie to decide one day.
With these thoughts, the poor woman drifted to sleep.
