Athanasia got up slowly and sat up on the bed, leaning back against the headboard. Trying to shake off her weariness, she massaged her eyes and yawned.
The morning sun brought another sense of solace for comfort. However, it did not prevent the dissociative thoughts from infiltrating. She began to lose her concentration as she gazed blankly at the window through which sunlight glowed.
Just then, the handle turned, bringing her attention to the door. It was pushed in and a familiar individual stepped inside. They both made eye contact and both were somewhat surprised.
Athanasia turned to her side and lifted the blanket where there was a tent underneath.
It was just a pillow and the body pillow.
Then, with a pout, Athanasia turned back to face Lucas.
Lucas laughed at her reaction. His laugh came out with a mixture of amusement and curiosity.
Sitting beside her, he asked, "You thought I was there?"
Athanasia shifted her knees up to her chest, hugging her legs and nodded silently.
"Woah. Since when are you so honest with me?" Lucas asked, nudging his shoulder against the side of her head teasingly.
Athanasia, however, said nothing.
Lucas bent over and gave her a little peck on the cheek. "I was up a while ago," he mumbled, nuzzling her face with his nose, "Went to make breakfast for us. You took too long so I came to check on you."
Athanasia did not pull away as she had in the past. She would just still hold her position, her pouty lips and where her eyes still locked at her own feet.
"Why are you still rolling around the bed like you just woke up?"
"Because I just woke up..."
His words, "Not suprised," came as he tousled her already untidy hair. "This is what happen when you went to sleep too late."
Athanasia jerked her head away from his hand and looked at his direction. "Wait... How do you know?"
"You were tossing and turning all night. I thought you had nightmare again or something," Lucas replied, parting away the messy hair that almost fell into her eyes.
"Did you?" He added the question as he locked eyes with hers.
Athanasia shook her head. "No nightmare. I just... Slept a lot in the afternoon so I couldn't fall asleep. Did I kept you awake?"
"I slept well last night that I didn't even hear you snore," he answered as he laughed.
He may as well readied himself for an upcoming punch, which he caught her wrist just fine.
"You woke up and chose violence," he added, "That is so typical of you."
Athanasia didn't know what she was thinking, but she mushed her face on Lucas' shoulder, putting all her weight there. Her eyes slowly closed from her lingering sleepiness.
But Lucas was genuinely concerned. He hastily threw his arm around her shoulder from behind her.
"Hey—You Okay?" Panic filled his voice.
Athanasia nodded. Her arm circled around his waist and wrapped behind his lower back.
Lucas hummed as he started to calm down.
"You got clingier lately. Are you falling in love with me more than ever?"
Despite Lucas' agonizing moan due to Athanasia pinching his waist, she never refuted his statements.
