After exiting the automated sliding door, Lucas looked around. It was quiet yet he could see all the light near by from the local houses and building. Not all of it was as bleak as he remembered.
A very tall structure caught his attention. It was without any light yet stood the tallest among the rest.
Memories started flooding his head, enough to make him tremble but he blamed the snow. He denied the hurting sensation and looked inside the shop instead.
Lucas watched a certain person looking around with the brightest light in their eyes, full of excitment like a child in a candy store. The memories of the past stopped haunting temporary as a smile tweaked on his lips.
Lucas stepped back inside and said, "I will eat all of these myself if we do not go now," drawing the girl's attention.
He raised the boxes of an entire store worth of desserts to the air and studied them.
"On second thought... My entire organs will shut down if I eat this much sweet..." After mumbling, he turned back to face her. "You're getting only one slice tonight. I can't risk you developing diabetes on me."
"Hey! They don't have That much sugar!" Athanasia objected. Then she looked at the employees. "Right?"
Without uttering a word, the girls gave Athanasia an uneasy smile.
Athanasia was abruptly grabbed by the wrist and pulled away from the desk.
"Do you plan on staying here or something?" Lucas asked. There was annoyance within his voice. "Let's go."
Lucas dragged Athanasia to parking lots that was a bit further from the shop. Lucas eventually released her hand as she caught up to his pace.
"Did you really have to choose a place like this to shop? There are plenty in the city."
"I didn't plan on buying cake here. I just wanted you to drive me around to the place where I've never been to."
"It's almost like a ghost town here. Told you."
"It's a lot quiet than the city, but that's what I like about it."
"You like... A surrounding like this?"
"The city is too hectic for me," said Athanasia. She inhaled the chilly air deeply after that. Under her chin, a cloud formed as she exhaled.
"Who know? Maybe we will have a side hustle like that one day," Athanasia spoke aloud as she laughed, "You bake and I will be in charge of the front of the place."
She playfully punched his shoulder then added, "I really can't leave you with the customers or else you will rid of them all and then we will be broke."
Despite her joyful laughter, Athanasia was staring at the ground when Lucas glanced at her. Being with her for more than enough to understand, Lucas knew she was rambling about her shattering dream.
Lucas swiftly shifted the conversation by asking, "Talk about being broke. Are you happy now that I am broke for the rest of the month after buying you these dessert?"
Athanasia smacked her boyfriend's chest with the back of her hand before snatching the bags of goodies from his hands.
Athanasia replied, "Do not act as though I do not know how much Felix paid you," as she checked the bags to make sure nothing was missing. "Plus, it was you who insisted on paying."
"First of all, it's a hard earning money from babysitting all those toddlers that Felix called 'Bodyguard'. Second of all, the paycheck is meant to pay for your pit less bottom of a stomach."
