It was just another typical midwinter morning. Breakfast later should not be an issue. It would undoubtedly turn into brunch, but Athanasia did not have to get up so early to prepare for work today.
Lucas did not need to throw his arms around her so firmly, his legs crossing over hers, effectively binding her to his body so she could not go for work so soon.
Athanasia did not have to declaw his hands or chip his fangs from her neck.
Neither of them had to do anything because Athanasia was finally getting a day off.
Through the window, the sun was up and gleaming. It gave her face a pleasant glow. She had to reach out her hand to block the light's ray since it was so dazzling that it awakened her up.
Athanasia cast off her gaze on the sun. Her eyes fell onto a man dozing on his stomach as she turned to sleep on her side.
She lowered her hand to see a bit better. His face was danced with a hint of sunlight that filtered through the curtain. His arms rested above his head, tucking underneath the pillow. Too winded up to even find the strength to hold her in his usual embrace.
His mouth parted slightly with every inhale and exhale. Softly breathing. No smirk. No grin. None of that smug expression.
His messy morning hair concealed the attractiveness of his eyes. In a way, he looked even more stunning within the whiteness of the pillow and blanket.
She would have complained about not giving the cuddle, but seeing him like this sometimes worried her even though he was perfectly safe now.
Her head was still burning from the day she discovered him on the couch, lying on his stomach in this manner, and it hurt so much that she was unable to tell him or put it into words. Every time she saw his sleeping position, it took a lot of bravery and self-assurance for her to relax.
He was doing it out of habit, as she began to discover. Not until they moved in together did she find out. And she noticed that Lucas slept a lot. It was unusual for her to arrive home and not find him asleep on the couch beside the nearest door to the main entrance.
He was also becoming less jumpy as she woke him up.
Initially, she could rouse him up without even walking over to him. He would awaken to the sound of her opening the door and meet her with his hair sticking out.
It reached to the point where she had to shake him awake, and he would open his eyes and smile at her.
Athanasia thought he was adorable, unless he was in his famished wolf state. He was just... an ideal guy, according to Lilian.
Athanasia gave a soft sigh. She tried to get closer, hoping to brush the bang out of his face.
Regretfully, she had never felt so achy from head to toe. She was so weak that it was difficult for her to even lift the blanket to see how her body was doing.
Lucas smiled at her, shivering, but promising, last night at supper after she told him she would be taking a few days off today. Even so, for the time being he remained silent and did not act.
She ignored it as well and continued with her evening as usual. Dinner, a little bit of computer work, then a shower. As she waited for him to have his turn in the shower, she turned down the lights in the room and began to read. Indeed, he did.
When he came out of the shower, she mentally reminded herself not to fall for his thirst trap, or she would wind up having her eyes roam his bare skin with nothing but a little towel hanging low around his hips.
