"Now finely chop the..."
Lilian never really got to properly finish her sentence. A demonstration of knife cutting skill was shown to her instead as the vegetable was chopped neatly and set to the side.
"Should I add the vegetable stock with the rosemary? I think it should give a great aroma, right?" He asked, wiping away the bead of sweat on his forehead that threatened to fall with his chef jacket's sleeve.
Lilian nodded and Lucas tossed the leaves of herb in.
Giving the vegetable a few tosses in the pan, adding a touch of seasoning by his portion control, Lucas dipped the spoon in the pan and handed Lilian the taste test.
"Is it up to your standard?"
"Just add a touch of brown sugar. Athy has a sweet tooth. Remember?"
"Oh! I will make a Demi-glace sauce after I cook the steak. Can I add the sugar in there instead?"
"That is brilliant, Lucas," Lilian complimented, "I'm surprised that you know how to cook this well..."
Lucas laughed as he slowly put the prepped vegetables on the plates, assuming that Lilian was being sarcastic. "It ain't much, but it's honest work," he said.
"No. Really. I am really impressed. And I don't think you needed my help at all in the first place."
"I still need to know what else she can eat besides slices of cake."
"She has been working hard, hasn't she?"
"If you considered sitting in the office all day and signing the paperwork as hard work, yes. She is overworked by now."
"And I assume today is the first day you saw her working?"
"Half an afternoon. I got bored after a while and I asked her if I could go out for some fresh air. She didn't even try to stop me."
"And here you are, asking me if you could take over the kitchen for dinner today."
"I hope I'm not being a burden."
"Oh no. If anyone is a burden, it should be me. I make people worried just by appearing in the kitchen."
"Regardless, thank you for showing me around the kitchen. Do you have room for a baking class? I... Don't know how to bake and neither can Athy. So, I was hoping you would teach me how to make some basic pastry goodies."
"I really don't mind, but baking... takes time and patience," Lilian said, looking out of the kitchen window, seeing nothing but a golden slate of the evening as the sun was already setting. "I really don't think we can make anything from scratch for today's dinner."
"Ah? So... We don't have dessert today?"
"Oh, we do," Lilian laughed and went to open one of the domes on the table. "If we don't have dessert for Athy, she will flip this place upside down."
"Talk about an obsession with sweets... I really need to learn how to cook and bake at the same time to please her huh..."
"Oh my... I thought Athy hired a bodyguard, not a private chef."
"It's not like that! It's just... I don't have anything to do for now so it would be nice to wake up before her to prep the food..."
"Someone is already planning an Important role for his beloved...," Lilian tormented Lucas as she winked at the blushing man who was trying his hardest to shake it off. She added, "Oh as for the bakery plan you asked earlier, am I still welcome to work in your business? Just in case you two are hiring, I can always be your assistant and run the place when you are on your honeymoon trip."
