The walk back was mostly quiet, as both Brett and Theo were pretty tired from the day's events and were keen to just go back home.
Once they got home, the sun was setting and Gigi and Glenn were home from work.
"Where have you two been?" Reagan snapped, glaring at the pair who sheepishly rejoined the group. It seems that everyone else had spent the day looking for Myc but them two.
"Yeah, I ought to give you a curfew." Gigi shook her head, taking on her mom role. "I don't want grandbabies just yet."
Brett insisted on making them all dinner, which was just a microwave meal so it didn't exactly require any skill.
"So, how was everyone's day?" Brett asked as he placed the food in front of them, as they all sat in front of the TV apart from Reagan.
"Exhausting." Gigi sighed, "I had to make up a whole 24-hour news cycle out of thin air! I had to jam their info with so much 'tainment."
"I had to stay three hours late to supervise the brats I sent to detention, but then they kept coming of age!" Glenn complained, folding his arms.
"Come on, it's not all bad. Right, Andre?" Brett said, desperately wanting everyone to be enjoying their 80s lives.
"This town is racist as hell." Andre grumbled, "Everyone keeps bowing at me, a kid challenged me to a karate fight, and every time I say anything, somebody rings a gong!" As he finished his sentence, a gong rang.
"You know what I'm hearing? A lot of feelings." Brett said gently, "And we never open up like this at work."
"There's a reason for that." Theo shifted uncomfortably where she sat.
"Booyah!" Reagan exclaimed suddenly, getting up from where she sat at a desk, "While the rest of you guys were playing house, I MacGyvered together a homing device!"
"Just like the TV show!" Glenn nodded proudly.
"What TV show?" Reagan asked absentmindedly, pressing buttons on her device, "Lock on Myc! Let's go grab him and get the fuck out of this one-decade town!"
"No!" Brett demanded suddenly, "We were supposed to watch Growing Years as a family! The season premiere's on tonight."
"Reagan, let's just get Myc tomor-" Theo started, feeling bad for Brett, but Reagan cut her off,
"Brett, it aired 40 years ago." She said, "When we get home, you can stream it."
"You can't stream me back to my childhood!" Brett snapped, causing everyone's heads to turn to him in surprise. It was unlike him to raise his voice like that, or really go against anything Reagan said.
"Okay, I see what's going on." Reagan sighed, "This wasn't a plan to find Myc. It was your weird plan to spend more time in fantasyland."
"It's just, everything is so much better here." He said nervously, fidgeting with his hands, and Theo placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder. Obviously something was wrong with him at the moment and Reagan was being a little insensitive.
"Listen, Brett, someone has to tell you this. Nostalgia is bullshit." Reagan deadpanned, "It is a brain-worm that makes adults regress into children who argue about Ghostbusters while the world fucking burns."
"Hey, don't say things about Ghostbusters you can't take back." Brett warned, pointing an accusatory finger at Reagan.
"Ghostbusters..." Reagan started,
"Don't."
"...is fucking..."
"Don't you dare!"
"...stupid." Reagan finished smugly, causing the whole room to gasp.
