It was their first day back at work since California, and no one was excited to be back in gloomy DC, apart from Reagan.
It was as if their lives had been put on hold for three months and now everything was back to normal.
But things weren't normal for Brett and Theodora, not only were they now minor celebrities, they had no idea where they stood with each other.
There was no denying that there was something between them, but Theodora was unsure what it was. She figured that she had just grown closer with Brett, considering they spent a lot of time together. That was bound to happen, surely she would feel different if she spent that amount of time with anyone.
They couldn't help but see each other differently, Brett had seen Theodora at virtually her worst and not that that made him view her differently, it just felt like their friendship dynamic had changed, maybe for the better since they were a lot closer.
It was no secret that they were close, but now they both wanted to spend most of their time together.
The group walked out of their first meeting back, Theodora and Brett had to do some promo stuff for the movie so they walked together to the media department.
"Theo, hey!" They both heard, turning around to see Jasper.
"Oh, hi Jasper." Theodora plastered on a smile, she didn't like how they left things three months prior and she was a little wary of him after seeing his reaction of her leaving for California.
"You got a minute?" He asked, glancing at Brett.
"Actually, we're about to-" Theodora started, gesturing to her and Brett.
"Oh, um, right." Jasper nodded, looking between them. "I'll catch you later."
"Okay." Theodora smiled, before grabbing Brett's arm and dragging him down the hall. Jasper watched them leave, frowning.
"That was awkward." Theodora mumbled, "We left things super weird."
"Maybe you just gotta talk to him." Brett shrugged, pushing the double doors to the media department open with his back as he talked to her.
"Yeah." She followed him in.
Wait, why am I helping their relationship? Brett thought to himself, I should be telling her to end things with him for good. No, I couldn't do that to her, her relationship is none of my business.
After their work there was done, Theodora went to find Jasper because she couldn't stand it being awkward between them.
She found him in the cafeteria, and decided to sit next to him. "Hey, stranger."
"Hi. Theo, look, I was a total asshole before you left." Jasper was scrambling to apologise. "I'm really sorry. I want us to still be together, right?"
Is this even what I want? Theodora paused, looking at him. Well, it is a safe choice. Nice and familiar, no surprises or anything- God, why is it so hard for me to trust people?
"Yeah." She nodded, grabbing his hand.
"And, hey, I gotta ask." Jasper laughed nervously. "Did anything... happen, between you and uh, Brett?"
"Hmm?" She raised her eyebrows, "No. What makes you think that?"
"Nothing, nothing." Jasper chuckled, "You're just close, is all."
"Yeah, well, you know we work together, right?" Theodora said, she understood his insecurity about being cheated on, but they weren't even really that exclusive or anything to begin with. And not to sound like Ross or anything but they were on a break.
"Hm." Jasper nodded. "Let me take you out tonight. We need to catch up."
"Shit I can't." Theodora sighed, "I'm going to see a movie with my friends."
"Which friends?" Jasper interrogated.
"Just... the team y'know. Gigi, Andre, Glenn, Myc, Reagan and... Brett." His possessiveness and jealousy was a serious turn off and it was pissing Theodora off. "Oh come on, you know 'catching up' just means sex and we can do that anytime."
"And what if I actually want to take you out?" Jasper was also becoming agitated.
"Then I'd say no." Theodora smirked, "It's okay. There's no need to wine and dine me."
"But I want to." Jasper snapped. "I actually like you, Theo."
She paused, her smile dropping. Oh, fuck no. She was glad that her friends were coming over so she could maybe get out of this situation.
"No, you don't." She laughed nervously, "I mean, we're just messing around, right?"
"But what if we weren't?" He grabbed her hand desperately.
"Key words, 'what if'." Theodora said quickly.
"C'mon, why are you so afraid of commitment?" Jasper asked, "It's not like I'm asking you to marry me, I just want to, y'know, do couple stuff together. Call you my girlfriend without you elbowing me or something."
"Wh-why change a good thing?" Theodora stammered, "Aren't we doing fine how we are?"
"Yeah, I love the sex, Theo. But what if I want to love-" Jasper started, but Theo cut him off quickly.
"Hey guys!" She exclaimed loudly as her friends approached the table. Reagan, Andre, Gigi and Brett sat down around the table they sat at. Brett glanced at the pair, suddenly going quiet like he usually did when he was around Jasper.
"Later. Call me tonight." Jasper said to Theodora, before stalking off.
"I won't." Theodora mumbled, picking at her food.
"Ooh girl, I overheard that." Gigi grimaced, "He's trying to get you to commit?"
"Mm-hm." Theodora shuddered. Brett looked over to her, great, so now they're official and I easily could have told her not to go back to him. She would have listened to me. Maybe if I told her how I felt she would have listened to me.
"Is that such a bad thing?" Andre asked, "I mean, monogamy isn't my kind of thing but it is your thing, right?"
"Yeah, but not with him." Theo looked down at her food. Brett's eyes bore onto her, what did she mean? Does that mean she would settle down with someone else?
"Honey, I don't know why you keep him around, then." Gigi said, eyeing the girl.
"Yeah, neither." Theodora muttered, her gaze passing over Brett briefly, before tearing her eyes away again. "I feel like he's not getting the hint. I am sending all the signals and he doesn't get it!"
Alright, now who exactly is she talking about? Am I delusional or could she be talking about me? Brett wondered.
Get. The. Hint. Theodora eyed Brett. Give me any indication of where your head is at. Please.
