Theodora woke up the next morning with 3 missed calls from Jasper, and it hit her like a truck that she had broken up with him the night before.

Sitting up in her bed, her hands shook as she held her phone. She figured she owed him an explanation.

"Theo, I-" Jasper picked up immediately.

"Please let me explain." She sighed, her voice scratchy and low, having just woken up. "I meant what I said last night."

"O-okay." She guessed Jasper had hoped she had been too drunk to mean it.

"And I want to properly apologise. I strung you along for so long for my own selfish reasons because I didn't want to face my feelings for someone else." Theodora's voice shook. "I'm sorry for using you and involving you in my own mess, you didn't deserve that."

"It's alright, Theo."

"I really do wish the best for you, I mean it." She mumbled.

"It's gonna take me a while to get over you." Jasper sounded gutted.

"I-"

"I'm sorry. Shouldn't have said that." He added quickly, "But I do hope it works out between you and Brett." She felt a jolt in her stomach, how the fuck did Jasper know she liked Brett and even she didn't?

"C-can I ask you something?" Theodora said tentatively. "If you knew I had feelings for Brett, why didn't you break up with me?"

"Like I told you, Theo. I love you."

"Fuuuck. I am sorry." She groaned, rubbing her temples.

"It's okay." He said sadly. "I'll see you around at work, alright?"

"A-alright." She hung up, and sat there for a moment.

Fuck, she thought as she went to the kitchen, hoping to find Reagan. She found Reagan about to leave the house.

"Where are you going?" Theo asked.

"Don't worry about it." Reagan seemed determined. "I'll be back in half an hour."

Reagan marched up to Brett's doorstep, banging on the door. Brett opened it, a surprised smile on his face.

"Reagan-"

"Brett!" Reagan stormed into his house, murder in her eyes.

"Reagan, you're... in my house... what's up?" He was slightly concerned.

"Want to explain to me why you made my sister cry last night?" She spun around to face him.

"Theo was upset? Why?"

"Because of something that happened on her birthday." Reagan pointed an accusing finger at him.

"I don't know!" Brett's eyes were big and full of innocence. "I swear, I would never do something to make her cry!"

"Yeah, you always say that, but it's not true, is it?"

"What? I swear, maybe she's upset because I wasn't there!" Brett panicked, "But I would never do something on purpose!"

"You say you care for her, but I don't believe you. How do you really feel Brett, because I'm startin' to think you're just toying around with her emotions!" Reagan said angrily.

"Fine, you wanna know how I really feel about her?" Brett pointed a finger to Reagan, "Everytime I look at her, or hear her name, or even smell her perfume, it kills me knowing that she's not with me when I know I could treat her well, better than anyone else could, especially Jasper from assassinations. And she's just the coolest, sweetest and most beautiful girl I have ever known and I long for her, emotionally, physically and spiritually. I have never met someone who understands and appreciates me so much and I just- ugh. I just... I know we can't be together, and I know it's selfish for me to feel this way but I can't help it. Reagan, I see her everytime I close my eyes! She lives in my daydreams! And my normal dreams! W-what do I do, Reagan, you gotta help me out."

Reagan took a deep breath, taking in everything he just said. "Jesus, Brett, I knew you had a bit of a crush but you sound like you're fully in love with her!"

Brett didn't answer, only looking sheepishly back at Reagan, a harsh blush spreading on his face. He was breathing heavily, worried about Reagan's reaction to the confession he just made about her sister.

"You are in love with her, aren't you?" Reagan asked softly, placing a sympathetic hand on his shoulder.

"I didn't mean to!" Brett whined, beginning to pace nervously. "It was an accident! What should I do?" He sunk back onto his couch, defeated.

"Well, I'm like 99% sure she loves you back." Reagan smiled reassuringly, she was getting excited at the prospect of her best friend and her sister being together. And it was surprisingly fun playing match-maker.

"99?" Brett looked alarmed, "What about the other... 1%?"

"Well I can't possibly be 100% sure." Reagan said matter-of-factly, as if it were obvious. "But I know that she clearly wants you."

"Really?"

"Uh, yeah. Haven't you seen the way she stares longingly at you in meetings?" Reagan smiled.

"No..." Brett looked flattered.

"Brett, you gotta tell her. Repeat everything you just said to me, to her." Reagan shook his shoulders with her hands as if to shake sense into him.

"B-but what if she says she doesn't want to be with me?"

"Trust me. She does." Reagan said fervently. "I know it doesn't seem like it, but she seriously gets nervous whenever you're around. You've literally unfrozen her cold heart."

"R-really? Are you sure?"

"I'm positive. And she'll kill me for telling you all of this, but she deadass talks about you all the time." Reagan added.

"Oh." Brett stood abruptly, he wasn't sure if he had the courage to talk to her about this.

"She'll be home alone tonight, I'm gonna go into my lab to work on some stuff, so go over there and tell her!" Reagan urged him.

"Okay, I will, I will." Brett's heart thumped against his chest.

"Go get 'em, Tiger." Reagan smiled reassuringly.

"What did you do?" Theodora demanded the minute Reagan returned.

"Nothing. Just running some errands." Reagan shrugged, placing a bag of shopping down. "And I got you ice cream, to cheer you up."

"Thanks..." Theo sighed gratefully. She'd been feeling guilty all day about what she'd done to Jasper, as well as nervous about seeing Brett at work. What would she do? Would she confess her feelings or would they just continue to be vaguely flirty with each other, their usual dynamic?

"Oh, and I'm going into work soon, and I'll be late so it's just you tonight." Reagan said, "Dad's not home either."

"You're going to work... on a Sunday?" Theodora eyed her sister, but grabbed the ice cream and plonked herself on the couch. She was unsure what Reagan was even implying by telling her that she would be home alone tonight.

"Yep..." Reagan nodded, "Y'know me, always working hard...!"

"Okay..." Theodora frowned at her sister's weirdness but decided to let it go.
