Everyone else went home after the tiring day they all had, it was an emotional rollercoaster to say the least. Theodora waited for Reagan to finish up, she sat in the war room on the table, alone and staring at her hands in silence. Brett approached her, and she looked up.
When she saw him, she smiled, but he could tell that she was hurting, he could see it in her eyes.
"What's wrong?" He asked softly, sitting next to her and taking her hand in his. Her head hung low and her lip trembled as she fiddled with his hand nervously.
"I just... I can't keep thinking about how my da-" She stopped herself, "Rand, deleted our memories. I feel like... uh, nevermind, it sounds stupid."
"Whatever it is, it's not stupid, you can tell me." Brett squeezed her hand for reassurance.
She looked at him, "I feel like I'm not even real. Like I'm not the real Theodora, because all I have are fake memories of a life that I didn't even live!" Her breathing increased, and she placed a hand on her chest as she struggled to calm down.
"Hey, hey." Brett grabbed her other hand, "Theo, look at me."
She looked between his brown eyes frantically, her brows furrowed. "I don't even know which ones are real! What if none of my childhood memories are real? Oh God-"
"Theo," Brett's voice was deathly calm, soothing to her. "Theo. You are real." He brought one hand to her face, "I'm looking at you right now. I can feel your hand in mine, your words and your thoughts are yours."
"I don't think I can just go back to normal after finding this out." Her voice wobbled. "I just wish there was a way to get the memories back."
Brett nodded, "I'm no expert in these kinds of things, but my advice is to talk to your sister about it."
"We barely ever speak about our feelings like that-"
"Just hear me out," Brett said quickly, "even if she can't find a way to get back your memories, wouldn't it be nice to just talk to her about it? She'll be feeling the same things that you are right now, and a problem shared is a problem halved."
Theo nodded, biting her lip nervously. Brett pressed a kiss to her temple before pulling away "Hey, did I tell you that I met mini you in Reagan's memories." He tried to make her feel better.
"You did?" Theo's eyes lit up.
"Yeah, you were pretty badass for a 8 year old." Brett chuckled, "But more like... a South Park 8 year old. Kinda makes me scared of you."
"I actually did watch South Park, so it probably rubbed off on me."
"At 8?"
"Come on, you already know how shit my parents were."

Back at home, Theodora decided to talk to Reagan.
"Reag, is there any way we can get our memories back?" Theodora probed at the idea.
Reagan sucked in air through her teeth, "I don't know Theo. I don't even know how dad got rid of them in the first place so I have nowhere to start."
Theodora was agitated, and began to get worked up. "But, just think about all those memories, just gone."
"I know it's sad." Reagan placed a hand on the girl's shoulder. "And I'll see what I can do but I don't think I'll be able to do much."
"Can we ask dad-"
"No. He's done enough. We aren't asking that asshole for anything." Reagan said firmly.
"So you're just okay with having memories of us hating each other?" Theodora asked sadly.
"I don't care if we used to hate each other. I like the Theo I have now. Look, I'd love to have better memories of you but that's in the past, there's not much we can do about it now." To Reagan's surprise, Theo burst out in tears, covering her face with her hands.
"No, hey, hey. I do care. I promise you I wish we could regain our memories but I just don't want you to get your hopes up." Reagan said softly, enveloping her sister in a hug. "I'm sorry."
Theodora nodded, pulling away. "I think I needed to hear that. It's okay. I guess we just have to make more good memories to replace the bad ones."
"That's the spirit." Reagan grinned in optimism, shaking Theodora's shoulder. Glancing over Reagan's shoulder, she noticed a picture sitting on the mantelpiece, one that she hadn't noticed before. She went over for a closer look, picking it up.
Reagan watched her curiously as Theo studied the picture. "Oh my God..." She murmured to herself.
"What?" Reagan frowned.
Theo turned the photo around so that Reagan could see it. "You and me, the night of your homecoming."
"God, you look pissed off." Reagan chuckled, grabbing it for a better look. They looked like they had been held at gunpoint to take the photo.
"Hold on, there was that guy... The one who took it. And then took you to homecoming, that was... Brett?" Theo's eyes went wide in confusion. So she did remember meeting Brett.
"Yeah." Reagan laughed at Theo's shocked expression.
"And he made us take this photo!"
"Yeah," Reagan repeated, "see? Brett helped us, in a way. He told us that we'd regret taking less photos together."
"That's so trippy!" Theo yelled, pulling out her phone, "I gotta tell Brett."
Reagan laughed, collapsing back onto the couch. She watched as Theo paced the room, talking excitedly to Brett about the photo and the memory of the night of Reagan's homecoming.
As she watched, Reagan couldn't help but feel a little sad as well. She wondered what life would have been like growing up with this Theo. The one that laughs and smiles, the one that genuinely has a good heart.
Maybe, if they had grown up closer, Reagan would be less insecure, and Theo would be less cold-hearted. They'd both be friendlier and maybe a touch less crazy. Then they wouldn't have moved across the country for college to get away from each other.
There were countless possibilities, but Reagan decided that there was no use dreaming about the other versions of herself, when right now everything was perfect.
