The Arcade

(A/n: first flashback chapter!!)

Y/n sat upside down on Steven's couch in the temple kicking their feet up in boredom. They looked to the side and saw that the sun was beginning to set. To their right Y/n saw Pearl sitting on the counter with a disgusted expression while Amethyst was devouring some Ice cream.

The purple gem, now laughing, noticed Y/n looking at them. "Yo! Want some?" She asked before tilting the carton towards Y/n. They saw there was about ¼ of it left and decided to pass.

"Nah, I'm lactose intolerant." Y/n told the two.

"Lactose intolerance?" Pearl asked.

"My body can't process dairy products... it happens to, like, a tenth of the population." Y/n recalled.

"Ah, I see." Pearl responded.

Y/n looked up and saw Steven and Connie building a pillow fort. They got excited and got up from the couch and up the stairs to see how things were going.

The pillow fort was already set up and looked good. Y/n carefully snuck into the fort so as to not knock anything over.

"Hey, remember that one time we went to the arcade?" Steven said, Amethyst already laughing.

"Okay, okay, it happened a couple weeks ago.."

Garnet bubbled a corrupted gem. "So cool.." Steven remarked. She pulled Amethyst out of the ground, "I swallowed a rock." The purple gem said.

They all walked "We all worked so hard that we deserve a reward." Steven happily announced. "Sounds like you have something in mind." Pearl deduced. Steven chuckled as they were now in front of the arcade. "I'm taking you to the best place in beach city, funland arcade!"

"Wait... I thought I told them 10 minutes.." Steven thought out loud.

Suddenly, Y/n came rushing to the entrance of the arcade. They were panting out of exhaustion after they got there. "Was I really like that?" Y/n thought.

Pearl looked up at it before quietly turning to Garnet and asking "Do we have anything else to do?"

"We don't." She replied.

"Uh, don't you need money for that place?" Amethyst inquired.

"Worry not, because—" Y/n started.

"This one's on meeee!" Steven said, turning around and opening his jacket to reveal a large amount of coins.

The gems, Steven, and Y/n walked inside. "Welcome to a land of fun-tronic game-ventions!" Steven chuckled.

"Humans find such fascinating ways to waste their time." Pearl remarked and looked around.

"Is it really time wasted if you're enjoying it?" Y/n humored her remark.

"..According to the Oxford Definition... yes." Pearl stated. Y/n thought about it a bit more.

"Pearl! Pearl, come on. You'll love this game." He said

"If you say so." The ivory gem replied.

Steven said and dragged Pearl with him. Y/n followed the two. "Road killer?" She read the title out loud. Y/n snickered at what Steven did.

"Pick the car you like, then just go for it." Steven said.

"W-which one of these buttons is my turn signal?" Pearl cautiously asked.

"—Well none of the rules of the road apply here. Act like a... careless drunk driver!" Y/n told her.

"Yeah! Have fun." Steven added.

Steven dragged Amethyst to skee-ball, Y/n was especially excited about that particular game. "Watch." They said, Steven handing Y/n 2 coins. Y/n inserted the coins in and 9 hard-plastic balls plopped out of one of the sides. "The goal is to throw the balls into the holes. The one at the bottom is the worst and the two at the top give the most points." Y/n explained.

Y/n held the ball in their hand similarly and rolled it on one of the sides with some force behind it. The ball ended up in the top left hole and Y/n got 500 points.

"There." Y/n proudly said, stepping back to allow Amethyst to try. "Get enough points and you can even win tickets for prizes." Steven pointed to Onion who received a moped. Y/n's eyes became stars as they desired the moped a lot.

Steven wished Amethyst good luck. She smiled deviously.

"Teens of rage!" The machine robotically announced.

"Garnet, this game is perfect for you." Steven said. "You seem like a Joe Rock type of gal. His special move is forward back, top forwards half circle, medium kick— oh wait, maybe that's an aerial move!" He remarked. "Just punch and you'll be fine."

"Come on chump!" The machine said, Garnet punching and shattering the machine. "I did it." She said, Steven and Y/n sweating nervously. "How about THAT one?" Y/n whispered to Steven. "Oh, let's try this one." He said, moving over to what looked like a boxing machine.

"This is one you can actually punch." Steven said. Garnet swiped the machine to the side and the body went flying. "I win again." She told us. Y/n whispered something else to Steven, something that got him visibly excited.

"Meat-beat mania!" He cheered and strolled over to the machine. "There's no violence here. Just shake the meat to the beat."

Garnet did as Steven said; She quickly got the hang of it. Steven decided to check on the others.

"You're horrible!" The machine told Pearl. "Why am I doing so badly? I haven't crashed into anything." The tall gem argued. Y/n took the wheel and jerked it to the right, having it scrape the side of the wall. Pearl started receiving points.

Steven looked elsewhere and saw Amethyst on top of the machine putting the balls into the middle. They both ran over to her. "Amethyst, what are you doing?!" Steven said. "Imma win a airplane!" Amethyst announced.

"That's cheating!" Steven told her. "You're gonna get us in so much troub-"

"Hey! Do you know what happened to Teens of Rage?" A person, probably the manager, asked authoritatively. The two of them sprinted to Pearl.

"Pearl, we're leaving." He said

"Good." Pearl replied. Her car exploded soon after which prompted the game to say "You're fantastic!"

"Garnet, we're leaving!" Y/n yelled to no response. "Garnet..?" They repeated.

"Uh, see you at home!" Steven frantically said.

"A-and then the monster Garnet bubbled came back, Pearl and Amethyst couldn't beat it, so I went back to the arcade and saved Garnet who helped us finish off the parasites! ...and then I had to work to pay Mr. Smiley. And, and-

Steven was cut off by the sound of snoring. Him and Connie looked back to see Y/n who had fallen asleep. They both snickered a bit before Garnet picked Y/n up softly and let them rest on the couch. Pearl brought them a blanket and pillow.
