"Yeah," Y/n sighed. "I'd like to accompany you all on your next mission."
"Absolutely not!" Pearl exclaimed as a maternal figure would. "You humans are fragile, impulsive, need I go on?" Y/n was about to open their mouth with a comeback but didn't have one. "We can be impulsive, P! I got my gem cracked today." Pearl turned to Amethyst and was visibly annoyed by the small purple gem's comment; Steven and Y/n gave small giggles.
"That's different!" The tall gem argued. "You're impulsive by choice and humans are impulsive by nature." Y/n was going to say something rash but thought it over. "I can defend myself. I used to do sports and acrobatics." They stated.
Garnet finally spoke up, "Y/n can come if they duel Pearl first."

"I can't duel her!" Y/n loudly whispered to Steven. Steven gave Y/n a double thumbs-up to which they responded with a defeated sigh.
"First a holo-pearl to test your proficiency, then the real battle against me." Pearl explained. She swiftly handed me a shortsword and dagger from her forehead gem. "I've no formal sword training but how hard could it be?" Y/n thought. Pearl's forehead gem shimmered before projecting a holographic pearl. The holo-pearl mechanically muttered "Prepare for battle!"
The hologram quickly slashed at Y/n with great form. Fortunately, Y/n was quicker on the draw, as they dodged a couple slashes before parrying one from the underhand and sending the hologram spear flying. "This is sorta fun!" They exclaimed while giving the hologram an overhead slash to disintegrate it. Steven cheered while Garnet watched with a slight smile.
"Good. . . For a human, let's see how you fare against me." Pearl stated. Y/n nodded at her to show they were ready. Pearl thrusted at Y/n which they quickly dodged. They jumped up and came down with an overhead slash while the tall gem guarded using her spear's long handle to stagger Y/n. "You're becoming predictable." She said; She wasn't meaning to be condescending. She performed a pirouette and slashed at Y/n; Y/n slashed back and they both clashed against each other. Their sword was quickly overpowered by Pearl's spear. "Well. You've bested me. I guess I'll just have to stay home." Y/n apathetically yet somewhat sadly muttered.
"...You can come with us." The ivory gem had announced. Y/n gave her a smile.

"So... do we get a distress signal?" Y/n asked quizzically while resting on the couch.
"No, Y/n." Pearl responded with a tinge of annoyance. "Can I train with you in the meantime then?" Y/n asked as they recalled how their previous duel went. "It's late." Pearl said; She sighed, realizing Y/n wasn't going to accept a 'no', went to the warp pad and motioned for Y/n to come.
