- AURELIA JONES -
"Why are we at The Citadel? Why. I thought the bad guys lived here. The guys who took me. Oliver, why are we here?"
He took a deep breath, "The guys that took you, live at The Capitol. We're at The Citadel, it's completely different. Besides, this building is on the other side of the city compared to them, we're ages away."
I let out a sigh of relief, "The Rebellion lives here."
I put the fork I was holding down and crossed my arms. "Let me guess, you're part of The Rebellion." I narrowed my eyes, "Because it seems like something you'd do."
He rubbed his temples, "Everybody who comes in to The Citadel, leaves a member or doesn't leave at all." His words sent a chill down my spine.
"So- let me get this straight. You brought me here, unconscious and against my will and now I can't leave unless I become a member of your stupid rebellion-club?" I folded my arms across my chest, staring at him.
He nodded sheepishly, "When you put it like that- it sounds bad but-"
"No. No buts Ollie. I want to speak with whoever runs this shit-hole." I said angrily. His eyes widened for a fraction of a second, "Actually you don't. Trust me."
Something about the way he said it made me listen to him.
Not that I wouldn't be able to talk down a big, scary leader guy. But that I probably couldn't and would end up dead.
"Look, give me a day. I can prove to you that this place isn't the enemy. You're safer here than anywhere else out there."
I knew he was right, but being forced against my will to join a "rebellion" doesn't sit right with me.
"One day. Or that's it." I said seriously. He nodded, grabbing my hand.
Ollie kissed my knuckles, "I won't let you down I promise." He said softly, "I'll get you some food and some fresh clothes, and then I'll show you around."
That sounded nice. "A fresh pair of socks sounds like a winner to me."
He smirked, "Be back shortly."
I was already feeling better. Definitely battered and bruised, but better.
It hurt to walk, with the fabric of my clothes brushing against open wounds.
I sat up against the bed, poking the dinner-plate sized bruise on my knee.
The door opened and I heard someone shuffle inside.
"Did you get the socks?" I said jokingly, looking up to meet his eyes.
However when I looked up, I expected to see Ollie.
Instead, all I got was an icy pair of blue eyes staring into my soul. I was paralysed, unable to move or breathe or do anything that involved functioning like a human-being.
My chest started to feel tight, my hands shaking, furiously.
"Aurelia..." His voice trailed off.
I wanted so badly to scream and cry and hurt him. But I couldn't take my eyes off him.
He couldn't take his eyes off me either.
"What are you doing here?" He whispered.
I was lost for words. My mouth was moving but there was no sound coming out.
"How long have you been here?" He kept asking questions I didn't know the answers too.
He kept talking, his voice was real. He was real. Was he real?
Am I real?
I just hoped Ollie wasn't too far away so he could save me from this madness.
I wanted to run away and hide. Dig my own grave and die in it.
Where the hell is Ollie?
"Aurelia... are you okay?" He asked me all these things but I couldn't hear him.
I couldn't hear myself.
All I could hear was the beating of my own heart, slamming against my chest.
It was so tight, and hot. Is it stuffy in here?
"Lia-bug, you need to breathe." His nickname for me made me break out into a sob, tears spilling from my eyes.
Ollie came back into the room, dropping everything in his hands.
"I see you two have crossed paths." He said in a daze, sitting on the bed beside me.
Ollie's comforting arms came around me, pulling me into his chest. He smelt nice, who smells nice during the end of the world?
It was weird being comforted by someone I thought was dead for five years.
"You need to breath Aurelia. I know it's hard but if you don't breathe you'll pass out."
I shook my head. I want this to be over. I want this to be a dream. I want to wake up tomorrow and be sitting with Ariel and Angel.
"You need to leave." Ollie said to Jace.
Jace.
Jace.
Him.
Jace.
The man I loved, the man I lost. The man I had to mourn, grieve and move on from.
The man who barged into my room and had the audacity to ask what I was doing here.
The man I loved, who still has my heart. And that's what I'm most afraid of.
I calmed down a bit when I could no longer see him, but I still felt like I was going to throw up.
"You need to explain- everything to me before the end of the day or I'm leaving and never coming back." I said as a threat.
"I'm serious Ollie. I cant go through losing you guys again and it's gonna be too hard to be here with you if I don't know what's going on."
He let out an exasperated sigh.
"Okay, I know. You're right. I know you're right, I know." He stood up, pacing around the room, "Fuck."
I smiled.
"It's just nice having you back, I don't want to throw you into the deep end too quickly. Especially because you don't know half of what's going on."
It's true, I don't.
But, I've heard whispers. Seen things.
The world may have ended, but radio signals, paper and the occasional signal still work.
I've seen things, heard things, read things. People leave signs stapled to telephone poles.
I know about walkers, about the infected. I know about the things that roam around at night.
I just don't know how bad.
And I don't think I want too.
