- AURELIA JONES -
After hiking for nearly twelve hours, we stopped at the eleven and a half hour mark.
Everybody dropped dead like flies.
We huddled into a circle, squatting in an old building.
"Take a rest everyone. We need to be up at dawn to start our next journey. We should be in the nearest big city by midday."
Once Jace called "goodnight" everyone unrolled their sleeping bags and climbed inside.
I sat resting against the wall, using my sleeping bag as a blanket.
Hugging my knees to my chest, I shivered in the cold.
If it didn't snow tonight, I don't know if it ever will. It was definitely cold enough too.
I stared out the window for a long time, watching the stars and the moon.
Eventually it began to rain. Just soft pitter patters on the roof above us.
"Can't sleep either?" Someone whispered.
I turned my head.
Jace.
I shook my head. "Are you alright?" He asked. I nodded, "I'm fine."
He didn't catch on to what I was saying, but he did frown.
A cute pout on his lips.
He crouched down next to me sat against the wall, "Penny for your thoughts?"
"Just thinking about everything- and nothing at the same time. About how this was a really stupid idea."
He chuckled, "I did warn you." He whispered. I shrugged, "Yeah, I know. But, I don't listen to you."
"Don't I know it. Remember when I had to save your ass from those walkers because you didn't listen when I told you it was infested."
I hung my head low, embarrassed.
I will admit that I was annoyed with him and that's why I didn't listen, but I nearly died so it wasn't the smartest idea.
"Can I be honest?" I said after a while, "I've thought about ending it so many times."
Aside from the light snores at the rain on the roof, the silence was so loud.
Tension so thick.
"Like? Killing yourself?" He added. I nodded, "There's nothing to live for anymore. We're trapped in a world full of- zombies. Basically."
I flinched when I felt his hand on my thigh, "I'm glad you're still here." He said reassuringly.
"Thanks."
The warmth from his hand felt nice.
I haven't had that in a long time.
"Stick with me tomorrow okay? We're heading into uncharted territory, we have no idea what could be out there."
"Sure, you're the boss." I said.
