- AURELIA JONES -
I was up half the night reading through Doctor Jacks notes.
Which is why I nearly face planted into my breakfast this morning.
"You better be awake for the meeting today." Rez nudged, "What meeting?"
"The meeting with the head of the capitol. They're doing an introduction and then they're going to assign jobs, chores, classes. Did you seriously not know?"
I shook my head, "I've been a little pre-occupied recently."
Ollie interrupted by shoving his arm into my face, "Does this mole look like cancer?" He stressed.
"I think you have worse things to worry about than skin cancer right now Ols."
He frowned, "But I've got so many moles, and I know spending too much in the sun gives you cancer."
I shrugged, "Maybe I should get it checked. Do you wanna come with me?" He asked.
I shook my head, "No but- you can take that one. He's got a really cute mole that needs looking at." I winked at Jace who was clueless the whole time.
Ollie made a face, "Gross. Anyway, I'm gonna leave now." He picked up his tray and left, leaving us all speechless.
"What was that about?" Rez asked. I shrugged, "I have no idea. I'll talk to him later."
After breakfast, a mandatory meeting was held in the courtyard.
It was jaw-dropping to see how many people had survived the virus and were here! I'm surrounded by people and civilisation.
I stood, dumbfounded as probably four hundred people gathered and sat to listen.
A man, who I'm assuming is the one in charge took the stage. He was wearing black cargo-pants, an army green tee and boots.
His hair was short on the sides but long at the top, falling into his eyes when he spoke.
He didn't look too much older than Jace.
He stood confidently, a smirk playing on his lips as he looked around at the empire he was controlling.
"Friends, family, travellers. Welcome to The Capitol." He spoke, the slightest hint of a southern accent slipping through his lips.
"If you don't already know, my name is
Hugo Everett. I take care of you."His words were so empty.
He held them with a smile but he didn't mean a thing by them. It made me wonder.
Someone grabbed onto my arm. I turned around expecting it to be Jace, but I was gravely mistaken when I saw a red-faced Doctor Jacks.
"Where the hell is the file you little thief." He hissed at me, whispering low enough for me to hear."
I panicked, "What? What files?" I played dumb, hoping my confused eyes were enough to convince him.
