- AURELIA JONES -

"...Are you sure about this Ange?" Ollie muttered, glancing at the makeshift testing/blood donation station we had set up in the living room.

"Not at all but it's the best we got." She clapped her hands together, "Who wants to go first?"

Nobody volunteered, "How about we test it first? Since everyone is O negative, we only need one sample to test mine with." I shrugged.

"If it works, it won't react. If it doesn't, we'll know about it."

Rez scoffed, "That doesn't sound safe."

"Or sanitary." Shoju added.

I rolled my eyes at the boys, "Dramatic much? It's just a little blood."

"You're gambling with our lives woman!" Ollie fretted, voice raising higher then usual.

"You'll be fine. If it doesn't work, we don't do it. Simple."

I was filled with anxiety, but that's normal when you're about to be drained of your blood so you can give it to your best friends."

"How long we wait for it to react? Don't these things usually take days?"

Angel shrugged, "Well when you get bitten, you turn almost instantly. But sometimes it takes a few minutes. So I say we give it ten?"

"Sounds reasonable."

We all watched in silence as Angel tied a tourniquet to my arm, withdrawing a small vial of blood from my arm.

Extracting my blood into a syringe, she used her own blood to mix it with.

It all suddenly became too real. Our blood looks the same, a deep maroon red.

She dropped a generous amount onto a piece of broken glass we'd found in the yard, much like a microscope.

Then, with shaking hands she dropped a few drops of mine into here, the bubble of blood expanding in size.

I held my breath, waiting for something to happen. When nothing did happen, I began to relax.

"Ten minutes. Then we'll know." She said. Her voice was unsure, but if I was to trust anyone on this it would be Angel.

Ten minutes seemed to pass by slowly, so incredibly slow. Considering we didn't have a phone, timer or clock to count the time, we hoped for the best.

Casual conversation and avoiding the problem was one of my specialties, but when the ten minute mark was up and nothing reacted, I could breathe easier.

"Well? There you go." I exhaled.

"I want to do a few more tests before we inject ourselves- I don't know how to feel." Rez said.

Understandably.

"How much do we need for it to work? How can we be sure it will work for us? It's been with Aurelia for years- how come we're only just finding out about it now?"

I cleared my throat, "I've uh- known for a while. It wasn't all the time I was that lucky but, I have noticed that I was less threatened then anyone else."

Shoju moved from the wall and sat next to me, "I'll go. What do I have to lose?"

My eyes shot to him, "What? Are you sure?"

He shrugged, uncertainty lacing his gorgeous face, "Why not."

Angel gave me a look, shrugging. "Okay- test number one. Let me know if you feel weird at any point. Even if your arm feels weird or you get a headache-"
