- ADALINE JONES -
Successfully, we managed to un-rig all of the booby-traps The Jacks family had set around the place.
Unsuccessfully, we were trying to dislodge an arrow that had shot itself into Ollie's foot.
"Ow ow ow! It hurts!" He whined, laying down on the now blood-soaked blanket on the floor, "If you would stop moving, I can try and fix it. I am a nurse remember?" Angel said with an annoyed tone.
Tears fell from his cheeks. I watched from afar, distracting Lyza whilst also trying to be there for my best friend, "You got this Ol." I called out supportively, "Is Uncle Ollie going to be okay?" Lyza asked me.
"Uncle Ollie?" I said under my breath, "Aunty Aurelia, that's what Mom said to call you." She smiled innocently, "She said you're family."
My heart swelled a couple sizes and I pulled her into a hug, "You can call me whatever you want sweetheart."
Shoju bent down to Lyza's level, keeping eye contact with me, "Do you wanna go exploring? Give the adults some time to themselves?" He smiled. Lyza nodded, taking his hand. I thanked him silently and he shrugged.
Rushing over to Ollie, I lay his head in my lap while Rez and Angel fussed over his foot. "How you hanging?" I smiled sympathetically, "Stupid house and the stupid fucking traps- OW, be careful! The foot is attached to my body you know." Ollie yelled at Angel.
"Hey don't yell at her." Rez snapped, "She's yanking my foot off! Fuck!" He winced in pain, squeezing my hand.
"She is not, you're being dramatic." Rez rolled his eyes. I bit my lip in sympathy, looking down at his face to distract him. "You're doing amazing. It's not everyday you get an arrow shot through your foot."
"See? At least someone is on my s- side." He stuttered, "Oh my God that feels amazing." He said, once his shoe was removed and the pressure was off.
"Okay, listen babe this is going to hurt. I need to check for other damage before I clean it and sew you up okay?"
He nodded and gripped onto my hands as I squeezed tightly. He pressed his head into my lap and screamed loudly, saying every colorful curse-word under the sun.
"Those are my good socks." He frowned, a pained expression on his face. He's sweating and looking pale, "God I think I'm gonna be sick." He choked.
Without warning, he moved his head from my lap and hurled his lunch onto the floor beside us. I rubbed his back supportively, "You're doing so well Ol." I said, "Oh God-" Another upchuck, "This sucks!" He said, "Why couldn't this happen to Rez, you fuck!" He spat, wiping his mouth.
Rez sent him a glare, "What did I do?"
"You're a pain in my ass."
Angel laughed at their bickering and I rolled my eyes, "We have enough drugs to knock you out. Lets just get this out of the way so we can perform the procedure we need too, okay?"
I wiped the hair that was stuck to his forehead out of the way and he looked up at me, nodding silently. "You're gonna be fine I promise."
I was reassuring myself more than anyone else. I can't lose anyone else, especially not Ollie. He's my soulmate in a friendship way, I love him more than life.

Rez, Shoju, Lyza and I waited anxiously in the other room while Angel operated on him on the kitchen table.
"Do you think he'll be okay?" Rez asked for the millionth time.
I nodded, biting the skin around my thumb, "Angel knows what she's doing, he'll be fine."
Lyza was braiding her hair in a mirror whilst humming to herself and Rez paced back and forth through the room, "He's my best friend I can't lose him." His voice broke.
"Rez." I said, he looked at me and I nodded to Lyza. "Do you wanna go outside? You can check on him." I offered softly. He nodded, "I'm gonna go see if she needs anything." He bolted before I could blink.
We were left alone.
I sunk into the couch, my eyes diverting to the puddle of blood that had stained the hardwood floor. "We'll need to get a rug for that." I said, "And some bleach maybe."
Shoju nodded, taking a seat next to me on the couch.
"We can do that."
Shoju reached out to me, moving my hands from my mouth and holding them in his, running his thumb over my knuckles. All I could do was stare. "When was the last time you slept?" He asked.
I shrugged, "Aurelia you need to sleep."
I shook my head, "No I need to be there for Ollie. And Lyza- what if she's hungry? I need to cook-"
"You need to sleep. You're no use to anyone if you're delirious." He said gently.
He's right. My head is killing me too. The lack of sleep, water and food was really doing something to my body. Every time I blinked, my eyes wanted to stay shut.
"I will wake you when Ollie wakes up. And I will make dinner, I promise."
I opened my mouth to protest but he cut me off, "I'll make sure I eat too. But right now my main priority is you. I can't have my doomsday partner falling asleep on the battlefield now can I?" He winked.
Doomsday partner, I like that.
I let out a laugh and fell into the couch, "Okay, you're right."
"You're not doing your body any good by eating yourself alive with worry."
The way he is with words makes my heart flutter. He's such a mystery but I feel like I've known him for years.
He tapped my forehead, a broad smile on his gorgeous face, "What's going on up there hmm? Care to share with the group?"
I blushed and hid my face, shaking my head before standing up on my wobbly legs, "Nothing you need to concern yourself with. I'll just- go take a nap. But please wake me up if anything happens. Please." I tugged on his arm.
"I promise."
Taking myself to a room down the dark hallway, it felt good to sleep on an actual bed. And as soon as my head hit the pillow I was a snoozing machine. My body relaxed, my shoulders didn't hurt and my head thumped a little less.
It was like being at home without the smell of freshly washed sheets.
But this is nice.
Too nice.
