- AURELIA JONES -
For a split second, I regretted every decision leading up to this moment.
My mind was screaming at me to run but my gut was telling me something else.
Once I was sure that Angel was safe with the boys, I lifted a shaking hand into the air, firing a warning shot.
The walkers stopped their attack, turning their attention to me. "AURELIA-" I heard one of the boys yell, I fired another shot.
Tears filled my eyes, "Come get me motherfuckers!" I yelled, "WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!"
At least eight oozing, growling walkers headed toward me, dragging their dead bodies along the grass as I stood perfectly still.
Stand your ground, Aurelia. This could work...
My hope shattered quickly when the biggest one locked their eyes on me, snarling his yellow teeth at me.
He sniffed me, getting two feet away from my face, aiming for my neck.
I thought I was done for, until something even bigger rustled in the trees.
Whatever it was, seemed to scare them off. As grateful as I was, they were still in my line of vision.
But when the walkers diverted my path and walked right past me, I stayed as still as a Christmas tree.
I held my breath, calmed my racing heart and made sure my mind was clear of everything but happy, fun thoughts.
Everything seemed to move in slow motion, my brain unregistering everything that is currently happening.
The blood that ran through my veins was in fact a cure.
I'm immune from the creatures that own the night.
I waited until they'd passed to open my eyes. Nothing but a pile of rotting corpses lay in front of me. But when I turned my head, I came face to face with an infected.
I swear I almost fainted.
He breathed down my neck, towering over me as I stood, wide-eyed and staring at the nasty beast. Saliva dangled from it's mouth, eyes glazed over with blood spewing from every hole in it's body.
The skin was a pale green, fingernails getting caught in the threads of my clothing as it sniffed me all over. I tried not to breathe, tried not to give away the fact that I was in fact human with a beating heart.
He didn't seem to notice though.
I smelt the putrid smell of rotting flesh, trying my hardest not to gag as the blood dripped down the front of my clothes. He made a clicking sound, face close to my neck.
Please God just kill me now...
I covered my mouth in horror, letting out a silent scream when the infected dropped to the ground in front of me, black blood spraying over my clothes.
Gunpowder made my eyes water as it infiltrated my nose, another gunshot ringing out to make sure it's dead. I waited for a few seconds, usually noise triggers the senses of walkers and that's why they attack, but I didn't dear to move until I heard the voice of my best friend in my ears.
