- AURELIA JONES -
I blinked myself awake in a daze, sitting up and rubbing my eyes.
It was light outside and the sun seemed to be shining. I felt so refreshed and put back together. Crazy what a good nights sleep can do for you.
My feet hit the floor and I exited the room, making my way to the main area of the house.
With nobody in sight, I checked the outside only to come up empty handed. Frowning to myself, I called out for them. But I heard no response.
Not that that anyone could leave a note, I looked around for one. Or any sign that they were out.
Panic started to set in and I wandered a few feet off the property in my socks.
The cars were still there and nothing seemed to be out of place. The sun was still and there was a cool breeze, like the perfect summer breeze.
"Rez?" I called out, "Angel? Ollie?"
"Shoju, are you there? Lyza?"
My voice strained but I came to the conclusion that maybe I was alone.
I dropped to the floor and cried, squeezing my eyes shut.
"... Aurelia." I heard.
"Aurelia wake up." I heard someone say. Opening my eyes again, I sat up in a sweating panic, coming face to face with a concerned looking Shoju. Immediately I threw my arms around him.
"I thought you guys left me." I whispered, holding myself to him.
His arms came around me and he held me until I pulled away, "It was a bad dream, you slept for ages. It's normal for your body to go into paralysis if you sleep for a while."
I frowned, noticing the rising sun outside.
"Ollie's fine. He's not awake yet but Angel said everything went smoothly and he should be walking fine in a few days."
I breathed a sigh of relief, crossing my legs in the bed as the covers fell off my body.
"It's weird waking up in a bed. I haven't had one for so long." I smoothed my hands over the covers and lay back down, looking up at the ceiling.
I didn't expect Shoju to lie down next to me, but I didn't mind it. It was nice, comforting. Shoju looked over at me, "And Lyza, is she okay?" I asked.
He nodded, smiling, "You worry too much, she's fine."
For once, my chest didn't hurt from anxiety, it was like a weight had been lifted.
Of course the thoughts of walkers and being alone remained, but if I didn't think about them I'd be dead by now.
A comfortable silence settled between us until I decided to get out of bed and stretch my body. "I'm gonna go check on Ollie."
Shoju sat up on his elbows and looked at me, nodding.
I left him in the room I was in, heart beating fast as I quickly made my way to the kitchen, where an unconscious Oliver was still residing.
I sighed, grabbing his big hand and giving it a squeeze. "If you die, I'm bringing you back to life so I can kill you again." I mumbled.
"Hey, thought I heard voices." Angel smiled, Rez following behind her. "Hey guys, how is he?" I asked.
Rez shrugged, leaning against the countertops. Angel looked at him, "He's good. As good as he can be, but he'll be okay don't worry."
I trusted her word and let it go for now. "Ollie needs to rest. We need to get this house under control, Rez can you?" Angel said, letting Rez take control of the conversation.
He cleared his throat, looking up at us as we wait for him to speak, "Oh yeah- right. Um- we need to make shutters for the windows outside, and test the solar panels on the roof. You know, for water and radios."
I agreed with him wholeheartedly, "Good idea. How do you expect us to do that?"
Rez sighed, "Where's Shoju? I need him to help me load everything off the car."
I cocked my head in confusion, "What do you mean?"
"Right here man, sorry. I was using the bathroom."
"While you were sleeping the boys managed to find some spare ply wood in the shed out the back of the house, they're gonna use it to make the shutters."
It dawned on me suddenly that we were missing a person. A small person.
"Where's Lyza?" I asked in a panic, "Where is she?"
I looked around the house, waiting to hear footsteps or a girlish laugh. "She's playing outside."
"By herself?" I crossed my arms, looking between Shoju and the others.
He shrugged, "She's fine. See." He said, pointing to a small girl playing in the grass.
I watched her from inside, glancing back to her every few minutes while Rez explained what we were going to get up to for the next few days.
"I made a list. Here." He said, handing it to me.
Tighten solar panels on roof
Build shutters
Ration and label food
Test electrical's
Basement stuff"What is basement stuff?" I asked, amused.
"Clearing it out and finding the weapons." Rez replied, "We're thinking of turning it into a bunker in case of emergencies." Shoju added.
I visibly tensed and Rez looked at me.
"Yeah, good idea."
"Right well. Let's get started shall we?" I said, "I'll do the rationing and see what needs to be cooked first. Hopefully all of the food is good, I'm interested to see what we can get of it."
Abiding to my announcement, the boys started their building.
Angel sorted through all the medical supplies, towels and toiletries and wrote down what we'd need to invest in.
While I was busy labelling the cans, I got distracted by Shoju's shirtless body.
I had to check my chin in case I dropped a little, watching his muscles flex in the sun and the way his arms carried the wood.
"Pick up your jaw hun." Angel nudged me, a smirk on her face.
"I don't know what you're talking about." I said quickly, snapping my head down to the can I was holding.
She laughed, "Girl, if I wasn't fully invested in your man Rez I would go for that hunk! Have you seen the body on that God? Where'd you find him anyway?"
I laughed at her outburst on Shoju and was about to explain, until what she'd actually said registered in my head. "Wait... what did you say about Rez?" I turned, seeing her face turn pink.
"What? I have needs..." She said.
I made a face, "Yeah but-..." shaking my head I ignored my head, "Good on you girl."
