Chapter 53

I wash Leo out and dry him off. He is so exhausted, I think he might pass out if he tried doing anything right now.

I carry him to the bed and lie down with him. He snuggles his head into my chest.

"Leo? Are you doing okay?"

"Mhm... Kenny... That was the best thing I've ever felt..."

"I love you."

"Mmm?"

"I said I love you, Leo."

"I love you too... My Kenny..."

That's right. His Kenny. That's me.

A month has passed since the trial. Today is Karen's birthday. Leo and I have been working to set everything up. I was able to get Karen the present I wanted to get her. 

"Kenny! I'm back!" She just returned from hanging out with her friends all day.

"Welcome! Happy birthday!" Leo smiles holding a cake.

"For me!?" She runs over to him.

I pat her on the head. "Slow down, you I need to give you your present first. Then we can eat."

"Okay! What is it!?"

I reach into my pocket and pull out a key with the number 215 on it.

"What is it..?"

"Two blocks away, apartment 215. Two bedrooms, one bathroom, amazing view."

Her jaw drops. "YOU GOT US AN APARTMENT?! WE CAN LIVE ON OUR OWN?!"

I smile and nod.

"WITH A WORKING STOVE?"

"Yep. You get a king-sized bed and a tv in your room."

"YOU'RE JOKING."

I laugh. "Nope. This is it. What do you think?"

"AMAZING!" She hugs me

Leo smiles and tilts his head. He looks a little bit sad. Is it cause I'll be moving out soon?

"Let's go!!" Karen stands up.

"Woah, calm down. Let's eat your cake. Leo made it, especially for you."

Her eyes light up. She loves sweets.

Karen absolutely devours a slice of cake.

Once we all finish our desert she runs to the door. "C'mon!!"

I stand up and grab my coat. Leo walks me to the door.

I kiss him goodbye, "I'll see you at school, honey."

"Okay. Have fun at your new place!" He smiles and waves

I start to walk out the door but Karen stops me.

"Kenny!"

"What?"

"Leo is coming with! Right? He can live with us too! Right??" She looks almost angry.

I turn to Leo, "Well, you heard the lady. Are you coming or not?"

He beams and runs towards us, pulling us both into a hug, "Yes!"

I smile and embrace them, my family. My TRUE family. "Let's get going."
